Nick did an incredible job mixing and mastering my single. The workflow was exceptional and he was very accomodating in making changes where necessary. He also added some creative elements in the mix that took the song to the next level.

Couldn't be happier with the end result!!

Nick is a real gem! One of the most patient, skilled, and exacting people we've ever worked with. The mix sounded amazing, and made even better by the fact that's he's just a great guy to interact with! It really blew away our expectations for what the song could be. He was great at reassuring us along the way and trying things at our request. We couldn't be happier!

Nick is truly exceptional to work with. I recently had him mix a single and he brought so much enthusiasm, expertise and love of his craft to the process. I admit that I can be a super perfectionist, but he was very patient and understanding. I feel like having joy for the process is key to any great art and Nick really brings that to the table in addition to his hard work, and mixing wizardry.

Nicks mixes quickly make you realize there is a whole new level of depth, clarity, and a huge punchlines that can be coaxed out of a flat mix.

What you can't tell from the example tracks is the level of professionalism, communication, and respect for artistic vision. The best part of working with Nick is simply that he's a great dude to be around.

I have recorded 4 tracks with Squillante Productions so far and each one has really blossomed with Nick's direction. He has a great sense for what current music should sound like and works patiently to bring out the best performance from every musician. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to work with Nick.

I was anxious to record with Squillante Productions, and Nick provided an exceptionally professional and pleasant environment to collaborate. He displayed exceedingly advanced and proficient work tactics, while thoroughly accommodating my requests throughout the progression of the track.

My band Take the Black has recorded with a bunch of different engineers and producers before but we have never been happier/more comfortable in the studio than when we work with Nick. He is a true pro and master of his craft. We can be a pain to work with... but he always helps us get the best sound with a great attitude! He does amazing work.

I worked w/ Nick while on tour w/ ZZ Ward. He recorded our set at Irving plaza. I own a studio so I can tend to micromanage getting the sound I’m looking for. I wasn’t able to help with the recording at all that night since I was busy with playing the show. When I got the tracks back, I was blown away. Nick is a total pro and pleasure to be around.

Interview with Nick 'Squids' Squillante

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I like to start where the production left off. I simply take what you've created and improve it while keeping the vibe of the demo intact. I will not try to reinvent the wheel... unless you ask me to.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work on anything from Pop to Singer/Songwriter and just about everything in-between.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I am especially proud to have mixed & mastered Sam DeRosa's single "Pill For This" in 2019. It was featured on NBC's Songland and debuted in the top 10 on the iTunes Pop Charts.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: After hearing an original song, I like to ask the artist who or what their inspiration was when they were creating it. Often times it sheds light on what type of vibe they're going for!

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: I'd say never be afraid give notes. This is your music, your art. You deserve to be 100% happy with the final result!

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: A MacBook Pro, a UAD Apollo audio interface, A pair of Barefoot01 monitors, 64 Audio IEMs, and an Aeron Chair.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: I was trained first hand by 7-time Grammy-award-winning mixer Michael Brauer at Electric Lady Studios in NYC, so naturally my inspiration largely comes from his work.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: At the end of the day YOU need to love the end result. That being said, I'll do everything in my power to make sure you are absolutely satisfied!

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Attention to detail. I make sure that before I even start mixing every single piece of audio is checked for any noise, clicks, or pops and repaired if necessary. That way when I finally get to mixing I have no need to mask or hide any elements of the production, the song can be heard as it was intended and without compromise!

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Mixing, mastering, production, vocal tuning, vocal cleaning, audio repair and more.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: My studio is quite simple, I use an ITB setup with a well thought out multi-buss template to produce the same richness and depth of sound that an analog setup would.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Keep it current, keep it relatable, and most importantly, If it sounds good, it is good.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: My career path has always been audio engineering, I've been professionally working in sound since the week after I graduated college.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Mixing.
