Creative mixes and polished masters. Let’s bring that extra dimension to your song!
I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2011 where I majored in Songwriting and Production and Engineering. I've been lucky enough to make my living as a full time musician over the last decade. From the famous venues on the sunset strip in Hollywood, to cruise ships in Australia to 5 star resorts in Bora Bora, music has taken me to some amazing places. Now I've settled in Nashville, and I'm a full time producer, and mixing and mastering engineer. I'm comfortable in many different genres including pop, country, rock, metal, rap and even cinematic orchestral music for film trailers and soundtracks. Working on my craft 9-5 has enabled me to level up my game exponentially, and I'd love to bring my knowledge and experience to help your track sound the absolute best it can!

Spencer has an amazing ability to live in many worlds musically. As a vocalist he has a unique quality that blends perfectly. As a guitarist he can play any style and blend them as needed for the track. As an engineer he brings all of this musical sensibility with a technical knowledge that can take songs to the next level.

Spencer has always nailed vocal parts and arrangements...I knew he was great on acoustic guitar, but he came through with a great rock solo on this last track. Highly recommend Spencer for his musicality and positive attitude. Always great results and fast turns.

Spencer is so in touch with the music; the style & the feeling of each piece. He can work from nearly complete tracks or the roughest sketch of something and take it beyond what you could have imagined. Highly recommended. Excellent collaborator!

Just finished my first project with Spencer and he did a great job! He was easy to work with and very professional. He was very accommodating when I asked for a reference track of the music with his lead vocals and he sang the lead just like I asked. I highly recommend him and I will work with him again.

Interview with Spencer Broschard
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Julie Broschard for female vocals
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: As a millennial who has only worked for myself, I have limited experience with analog gear aside from while I was in college. For sure there is a magical sound that tape and all of the capacitors and transformers made back in the day, but who are we kidding? For the sake of convenience and budget, all of our favorite legendary records would have been made on a laptop if they had access to the same technology we have today!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That a poorly recorded track can be "fixed in the mix." Make no mistake, there are some amazing things we can do these days to make poorly recorded tracks sound better, but getting the sound right at the source is about the best advice I can give.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started like most people producing my own songs. Then I began doing work for friends and other bands in the local scene. When you're starting out, it's so important to meet new people and just making yourself available for anything. I've played on cruise ships, at 5 star resorts on beautiful islands, and famous venues on the sunset strip in Hollywood. I've been doing music professionally since I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2011
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Incubus, Nothing But Thieves. Two of my favorite bands, and some of the most musically diverse musicians out there. They are always evolving and very album is completely different, which is so hard to do as a band. I would love to hear what we'd come up with
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all genres, but mainly rock, pop, country and folk music. I'd LOVE to do more metal \m/
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a songwriter and a musician myself, I bring a sense of emotion and feel to a track. I once read someone say "Mixing and Mastering is 20% technical and 80% emotion" and I tend to agree with that.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a dedicated studio space with professional acoustic treatment and top of the line monitoring including my beloved PDP MUM-8 Monitors.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Oh boy too many to name but I'll try! As a mixing/mastering engineer, I really look up to people like Andy Wallace, Andy Sneap, Ken Andrews, Rich Costey, Brendan O'Brien, Alan Meyerson, Eric Valentine, and Sean Everett.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is production and mixing but I love mastering as well
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will only improve your song!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Taking songs that are almost there and really making them come alive
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My guitars and as much sunscreen as I could carry!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get it right at the source! Don't expect a plugin to give you a great track after it's already been recorded poorly
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ears and my instincts for what a song needs. Because I'm also a musician that plays many instruments, I think I'm able to think more like a musician and less like an engineer
