Danny Vinton

Alt-Pop Producer and Engineer

Danny Vinton on SoundBetter

I have produced and engineered for major companies including Virgin Records, Amazon Prime, and SONY publishing. I am a Pop/Hip-Hop Producer who plays Bass guitar, Guitar, Keys, along with programming, tracking, and mixing. I've worked on songs with independent and major label artists such as Heath240, Dev Soter, STEFAN THEV, UU, Rich Boy and more.

I specialize in track creation, programming, or engineering. I pride myself on being able to help at any point within a project, and be able to help see the artists vision through to the end. I am a full time producer and musician based in Nashville, TN. I have experience as an engineer in major commercial studios in both Nashville, TN, and Boston, MA. With this combination of experience along with my ability to edit, tune, mix or do any other technical change to the song allows me to help take your song to a different level. I offer all of my services a la carte, and as separate package deals. My favorite kind of music to work on varies from genre to genre, but I love to work on music that I believe the world should hear.

Interview with Danny Vinton

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: Indie-pop, indie-rock, hip-hop, alt-rock, alt-pop

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: I believe my strongest skill as a producer is to fill in any gaps that you may need. I am very comfortable in larger studios on Pro Tools and editing live instruments, but I also have a degree in Music Technology and a minor in computer science from Northeastern University. This has allowed me to have extreme depth in my sound design and how I edit. I play bass professionally in Nashville, TN and as a touring musician, and I am comfortable on several different instruments.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: We start with sounds and ideas and craft the song with its harmonic and lyrical content while deciding on an overall aesthetic for the song. Once those ideas have been fully brought to life we hone in on the production of the actual takes and nitty gritty sound design before moving into vocals. Vocal tracking becomes its whole own phase so that we can get the best comped vocals possible, and then dedicate a little bit of extra vocal "sauce" before moving to. final mixing stage. At this point either I mix the song with the wet stems, or I will send wet and dry stems to another mix engineer if the artist desires.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I have a setup with 12 inputs running Apollo X preamps and a hear back system through Sennheiser G3 in ears. This set up is isolated to another room with recording for a live drum kit, amps, and vocals. I consistently am using the Slate VMS or Shure SM7B for vocals, but I also consistently rent out higher end tube microphones for final vocals. The room is fully treated with Pro Tools Studio, Ableton Live 11, and Logic Pro X. I also incorporate many VSTs from Xfer, Output, Native Instruments, Arturia, and many more.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: I am a big fan of Jeff Ellis, Will Anspach, Andrew Scheps, Serbhan Gheana, and man other mix engineers that have an absolutely amazing discography. I also have an amazing amount of respect for lots of different producers such as Jack Antonoff, Rick Rubin, Brakence, BYNX, and too many others to mention. I'm inspired by individuals who have mastered their craft so well that they can wield it in any situation.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Usually I am working start to finish with artists on a song as an executive producer. We start with sounds and ideas and craft the song before ultimately tracking and engineering the record.
