great session with Jon as drum editing boss. He delivers every time! I wouldn’t want to approach/finalize drums without him. Jon is a talented engineer, pro tools wizard and expert @ the advanced art of drum editing. Taking advantage of his skills, I get to focus on making my comp and then relax. Jon then delivers consolidated/polished multitrack files back- each edit accomplished/ everything organized and pulled together in a beautiful new file. ready to mix- what a thrill!

Jon exceeded our expectations. This was my first time hiring someone to edit and align our drum tracks. Jon took care of us quickly, showed genuine interest in the project, and even helped fix some track labeling issues we had. The drums are tight and natural nothing sounds too "stuck to the grid", which, I'm sure he could do if you wanted it. He made our drummer one happy guy. If you're looking to get your drums edited, look no further honestly. Add me to the list of "another happy customer".

Jon did such a great job with the drum tracks fixing the timing - on time, clear communication and professionally done. Couldn't have hoped for better, thanks for the help!

Working with Jon was great! For this track, we wanted to edit drums by nudging and manually moving things around. We were not looking to quantize and snap to a grid. Jon did an amazing job giving us the type of editing we wanted. No revisions were needed. Our drummer called me up immediately when he heard the tracks and was super happy! Quick turnaround and great communication as well.

Jon "The Drum Editor" has done only a fantastic job with everything I've thrown at him. He is Highly skilled with his editing, control and sense with multi tracks drums. I have been most impressed with his supreme organization and file management. I handed off several large complicated large sessions, some with different sample rates/ other particular issues- it all came back beautifully and properly packed up: POLISHED AND READY TO MIX :0 ! Saved me weeks-I got to relax and work on other stuff!
Interview with The Drum Editor
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Just finished editing a huge project for someone here on Soundbetter and he was very excited that he'd been finding people on here to help him make his songs great. Happy to be part of his team!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Probably editing drums
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm not aware of any other providers that I know personally, but I've met some great artists!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping artists make great music! I've met lots of interesting people and heard lots of great music!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Mostly some form of "can you edit this?" And the answer is yes!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't just quantize the drums and leave it at that. I listen to the song and see if my editing is working to make the song sound better. I listen on speakers and in headphones to make sure the edits sound clean. I want to make sure that what I send you sounds great and that you'll love it!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what your goals are for the music I'm working on. How do you want things to sound? How tight do you want the drums? Do you want to keep that human feel or do you want them completely on the grid?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to the providers previous work and read their reviews. If you like what you see and hear, send a message and see if they're cool and if they can help you with your goals.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, my sennheiser hd 600 headphones, my Martin D15 guitar, akg 414, and a phone to call for help
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: You! And I've been listening to a lot of Khruangbin lately, I just love their sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Honestly, I love when my clients get excited about their projects. It makes me excited for them and keeps me happy!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After communicating with the client about their needs, they send me the audio files, I edit them, I send a rough mix for verification of work, and if they're happy with what I've done I send the edited files.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will take care of your music and make sure you're happy with how it turns out
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It's come a long way. It sounds great and has unmatched flexibility, speed, and ease, especially with editing! And it's nondestructive. If I screw up, I just hit undo and try again
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Engineering in some form since 2005
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Perfectionist
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get it right from the start! The less you have to fix after the fact, the better. Never "fix it in the mix!"
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Open to all, but so far it's been metal, rock, and jazz
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Editing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Perfection! Or at least helping your performance sound better by comping the best parts together and improving the timing
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Primarily edit with Pro Tools
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My specialty is multi-track drum editing. I can comp and fix timing issues.
