Interview with Ferry Rahman
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music composing
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My ideal work process for songwriting involves at least a day or two of listening and immersing myself into a raw idea, allowing it to take shape and develop organically. When needed, or when given a specific directive, I can deliver in the space of 3 days.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am intrigued by the eclectic arranging styles of Gregg Alexander and Beck. Passion Pit's and Bombay Bicycle Club edgy sound, a blend of electronic and organic elements, is one I strive to emulate.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Fusing the two is an exciting challenge.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: .Wav files.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I am grateful to have the opportunity to make music on a daily basis, especially when the creative process results in a surprising new direction for a song.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A solar panel, laptop, synthesizer, set of headphones, and an audio interface. I would attempt to construct instruments out of bamboo and coconut shell island resources.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'm happy to work with any enthusiastic soul seeking to collaborate musically.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: An emotional, clean sound, a mixture of organic and electronic components.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically arrange songs falling under indie pop/rock, electronic, and alternative genres. I also do scoring and commercial music.
