Interview with Gius
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing and mastering music.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both as best of both worlds or whatever you prefer, a.k.a. gear doesn't matter.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You won't regret it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I never stop working on music and learning things.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: - Hey do you have a moment? - Yes.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That engineers know more than artists what's good about (their) music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A sun-powered electricity generator, my computer, a satellite modem for internet, and two speakers.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a musician and fell in love with all the aspects of music production from recording to mixing to mastering. After ten years of creating and performing music while learning the other skills (mixing and mastering) I faded from being a musician to being a full time engineer.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Keep the creative flow going and focus on finishing rather than obsessing on improvement which ultimately leads to stagnation.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: That's tricky to ask ;) You should give it a try :)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: There is really no typical. As I said above my favorite workflow involves mixing AND mastering blended in the same project, but I also do lot of only mixing / only mastering jobs.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually do mixing AND mastering for the same project. More often than not the artists are very happy to blend these different parts of the production in one process and reach a faster creative pace.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in a hybrid digital/analog environment where I can access outboard gear without the limits of setups and recalls. I work in a studio inside my property with a fixed setup always ready to go, so I can be efficient and creative at any time.
