First time working with Eliud on a track and definitely not the last. He has a vast musical knowledge as well as passion for the song. He took my song and added that little extra that I couldn't have thought of taking the song to the next level. He is very reliable and works quick to achieve a great result. Pleasure to work with. In the words of my husband: Eliud has a sophisticated ear. He produced a vintage yet modern sound on the mix he did for us, which is so infectious.

As an Artist Manager, Producer and Label Owner I have had the extreme pleasure of working with some of the giants in this industry of music. I have worked w/ Teddy Riley, Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien. I have watched Liu mature as a musician and a mix engineer. Lui is my go2guy because he understands frequencies and how they go together make a superior sounding record. If you want that knock he will give it to you without compromising quality and if there is an adjustment that you may require one phone call or text to Lui & he is own it w/o having ANY ego about it. In 2 words "the Greatest"

I am a songwriter /producer and it was my first time working with Liu.
Liu' s mixes are awesome! Very transparent, perfectly EQed, not overcompressed yet really solid with the thick and thumpy low end - simply beautiful, creative and thoughtful mixing. This is what you get if you are dealing with a truly talented person with an in depth understanding of what music really is,no matter the genre.
Even though personality compatibility is hard to predict, let me assure Liu is a great professional with a great personality, the person you want to sit next to on a long plane flight.

I’ve been working with Liu for years, starting when we did some work with Shaggy. I was so impressed I hired him to record and mix my next production project. His technical skills are off the charts and he’s a great problem solver and colleague. So it was a no-brainer to have him do mixing and mastering work on my solo album, coming out soon. Liu doesn’t quit until you’re happy with his work.

Lou is one hell of a guy and someone I’m proud to call my friend. I’m an independent artist and we all know how hard of a road that is. So many people blow smoke up your ass and say they got you or can help, until it’s time to put up or shut up. Lou not only showed up he showed out 100% I will definitely be hiring him again in the future and I look forward to making more beautiful music together

Lou is a masterful engineer. Within a couple days he delivered his first mix of our track, and it was a night and day difference from the previous mix. Over the next couple weeks, Lou took my feedback and experimented with 6 additional mixes before we were both very satisfied with the result. I highly recommend Lou for both his mixing and mastering prowess.

I’ve hired and worked with Lou on various major label gold and platinum recording projects. Lou has always gone above and beyond the call of duty both professionally and sonically. His keen understanding of both music and technology coupled with an appreciation of multiple music genres is what makes Lou one of the leading mix engineers in the business

Interview with Eliud "Liu" Ortiz

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: To many to mention. But one of my favorites is when I mixed a record for Luther Vandross on his album "The Best Of Love" Volume II, the song is "It's All About You" . It was a real pleasure to work with him and it felt so natural because I listened to him for so long from a child to adulthood. That mix just flowed so smoothly from me.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both!!!! Why not!!!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: You will be happy!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love the creativity that it allows me to have.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Not sure about that question.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That anyone and everyone can Mix or Record. Especially with these one button plugins.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What is it that you want this song to sound like? Or what do you feel it should be.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Make sure that you hire someone that doesn't see you as a dollar sign. Because if he does he'll only put in as much work as you pay him.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My Computer, Speakers, Tablet guitar and guitar amps

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: Ok the abridged version is I started as an intern cleaning tiolets and making coffee at a studio in midtown Manhattan called Sound works(the original). And worked my way up to eventually recording engineer to mixing engineer. Through many different studios.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I have a very flexible, open and solid mix stlye.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Any artist that loves music, and I am mean truly.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Sure just Listen! Listen to the producer. Listen to artist and most importantly Listen to the music.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I work on a little of everything. Hip hop, Latin, Pop Reggae and rock(metal)

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is my ability to understand and translate what the artist and producer want to hear if their song.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring my love for music and the ability to bring the song to it's Pinnacle. I want to bring everything out of the song and heard with a clarity of the stereo vision.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I like to listen to the song demo before I start mixing a song at least a few times to get a feel of the song and to see the direction the writer or producer was going in. As I am mixing the song I strive to carry that feel over to the mix. As well I talk to and listen to what the producer has to say in what he or she wants. They have to express themselves to me as to how they see the song. I am rather old school.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I am a devout analog console engineer that works in the Box everything has a sound like it came out of a console stereo bus. That being said I use a custom PC I built myself 32 gb of RAM with a Intel processor. I use Dangerous Audio 2 Bus+,and Monitor St. for my analog bookend. And for my conversion needs I use RME UFX+ and as pre-amp needs RME Octamic2. And for plug-ins to long a list.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I was inspired very much by Tony Maserati, Andy Wallace and Goh Hotoda. Simple the Pinnacle of engineering and production!!!

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I make sure as recording and mix engineer that there songs have the highest quality of standards and at the same time is exactly what they want to hear!!!!
