Absolutely excellent throughout the entire process. Did a full album of everything from ambient/post-rock to black metal and everything had just the right amount of energy and lots of creativity and feel, every time. Plus, incredibly nice and professional person to work with. 11/10. :)

Hugo goes beyond just playing a part. His interpretation adds to the music and he always adds a touch of magic to my songs. He’s my worst kept secret! Hugo rocks. And he’s a great person to work with. Highly recommended.

Hugo is a fantastic drummer who improves every one of my songs he plays on. Always my first choice. Hugo recently helped me work out a complex part that ended up being 9/4,9/4,7/4 time. A great person. Easy and pleasant to work with.

Perfect job. Very pleased

A streamlined and professional experience. Attentive to detail and super quick with revisions. Very well versed in the obscurities found in underlying drum parts (metal especially) and a high energy drummer with good stamina. Great feel and can do it old school for all the non metronome users out there. Go hire Hugo 👍

Hugo is a top shelf professional musician. His skills are obviously insanely good, and paired with his great communication and ability to understand my vision of the song, he is a really unique and high class guy. If you're reading this, please strongly consider asking Hugo to drum on your track, I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Interview with Hugo Ribeiro
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some drummers off the top of my head: Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Portnoy, Chad Smith, Thomas Haake, Bobby Jarzombek, Carter Beauford, Mike Mangini, Matt Sorum, Lars Ulrich, Tommy Lee, Vinnie Paul, and many others.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people still think this profession is more of a hobby.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Drums - Sonor Select Force Maple, Yamaha Oak Custom Cymbals - Sabian AA; HH; AAX; Artisan Drumheads - Remo Mics - Sennheiser, Shure and Sontronics Interface - Motu
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Always track your song to a metronome/click.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the bpm of the song? :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums and in bands for over 20 years. I've done high profile gigs and more "humble" gigs through the years. I've also been fortunate to open for some major international acts such as Nightwish, Helloween, Moonspell, Soilwork, Opeth, Paradise Lost, HIM, Gojira, Behemoth, The Haunted, Ramp, The Gift, Paulo Gonzo, Xutos & Pontapés.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I developed a Rock/Metal style with a strong progressive mentality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Anybody with talent, creativity and vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to keep it real with triggering and sampling to a minimum. :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I get a lot of Rock and Metal requests but I have also done other genres such as Pop, Blues and Country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Hummm... consistency I think.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My main focus is to articulate what's best for your song while complimenting what you have in mind for it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: This is how it usually works: My clients send me 2 versions of the same song in MP3 format because its much lighter to transfer than WAV/AIFF. One with programmed drums(if there are any) and one without the drums so I can record over the song without the programmed drums getting in the way. The programmed drums are usually for reference and are an idea of want the client wants and I go from there. Sometimes I'm given complete freedom to do what I think fits the song better and other times they want me to do more or less what they did with the programmed drums but at the same time put my ideas and feel here and there. Each case is different. After I record your song, I send you an mp3 with what I recorded for your approval so you can decide if you want anything changed or not. If all is ok with the song, I send you the full WAV files of the individual tracks after payment is received.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide professional quality live drums for bands and artists.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Desolate Plains - a project from Greece with the album "Practicing The Inner Arts" which came out in 2017. Armortura - a metal band from the UK with their self title album "Armortura" coming early 2018. I'm particularly proud of my drum work and the all the talented personnel involved on those albums.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes: https://soundbetter.com/profiles/4573-marcello
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both because each has its strengths.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my best to accommodate your needs and the fulfill your vision of the song the best I can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Freedom and creativity.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you send a Stereo Mix of the drums? I say, YES!
