Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Songwriting and new original music.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating a memorable performance. This can be tedious but the payoff is great once you've turned over a great session to the producer.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That singers aren't musicians. The best ones are skilled technicians at what they do and know how to get a great vocal performance under any circumstance.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please be clear about your expectations by providing references, key, BPM and expectations for the finished product. The clearer you are, the better.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm an artist in my own right. I have been in the industry for more than ten years, mostly on the live talent side. I am pivoting to focus more on songwriting and studio performance.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful, urban, pop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Khalid. He's got a classic soul voice but puts out really strong pop music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Typically pop, electronic, r&b.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My vocal dexterity to match genres. My background began in choirs, singing gospel and RnB, but trained in Jazz and musical theater and worked for 8 years as a background vocalist for Katy Perry singing pop.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Stellar vocals with a stunning ability to execute timing, diction, tone, and feel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I record, I typically record five takes of each section (eg verse, pre, chorus, bridge) and then create a comp lead vocal. Depending on the song, I will add my overdubs and harmonies, the follow-up with background vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record through the Slate Digital VMS through Apollo Twin MK II interface with Neve 1073, real-time autotune (just a touch), and Fairchild 670 limiter processing into Ableton Live 9.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Studio recording and live vocal performance.
