Josh is the best engineer I've worked with between this site and Fiverr, he has a great sense of style and direction for songs, and he really takes time to get everything feeling just right before he sends a mix back. Definitely worth the money!

Josh was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. Not only did he master my album, but he also gave feedback on my mix beforehand and had some good suggestions throughout the process when I was indecisive. I would definintly work with him again.

This humble very talented gentleman is someone I will be grateful to all of my days. Together, we produced 44 tracks of tunes I’ve written over the years. Josh brought great musicians to add cello, violin, flute, piano and mandolin to my guitar and vocals. Josh has skills - arranging, mixing, listening and efficacy are at the top in my view.

Josh recorded two songs for me during the Month of March....which were beautiful. The one had cello added to it. Josh puts his heart in the song as have some others i've met on SoundBetter...and it makes the difference between nice..and beautiful. thank you for doing what I can't.

Interview with Josh Woods
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is an opportunity to re-produce the song when the proper decisions weren't made during the production stage.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - Can I hear a rough mix of the song? - What do/don't you like about the rough mix? - What are some references of music you enjoy listening to? - What are your budget constraints? - What are the most important elements for you in this song? - What do you hope to accomplish in the mixing process?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a clear understanding for your project's vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn all of your tools, even the simple ones. Don't discount a plug-in just because it doesn't have a vintage-inspired interface. Learn everything that they can do. Some of the best mixers work on the same console their entire lives and make amazing mixes simply because they learned everything that it can do.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop and hip-hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Connecting all parts of a song into an emotional and sensory experience.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is extensively treated with GIK Acoustics to ensure a proper monitoring environment. The combination of top of the line monitors from PSI Audio and a controlled room enables me to deliver mixes that translate accurately across a variety of playback systems. One piece of gear that I love to use is the Handsome Audio Zulu, a passive analog tape simulator that provides character and depth when needed.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Tony Maserati, Manny Marroquin and Jaycen Joshua are some of the mixers I find myself referencing consistently.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise clear and timely communication, excellence in every mix, and commitment to your vision.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a sense of organic texture, rich dynamics and nuanced focus.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to start by listening to the rough mix, and comparing it with any artist notes provided. The most important part of my process is understanding the artist's vision and how to achieve it in the final mix.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering for indie and signed artists.
