Interview with A Dubb
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a music project that dealt with many issues in regards to things happening around the world. poverty, police brutality, terrorism, war, sickness... I had a chance to travel to different cities and speak personally with individuals that experienced some of the issues. This was all a part of the video in which I was co director.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I'm working on an EP project for a new artist. We are producing the EP and also directing the video for the first single set to be released in September, 2018.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I would recommend Luis Moreno for engineering. He is my personal engineer and works with many great artists.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: They both have their advantages. I have and can use both,
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I guarantee my clients that they will receive a top notch product and help them in the best way I can within the music industry.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating music for everyone to enjoy. Songs that touch peoples hearts in one way or another.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers normally ask to hear samples of music I've produced, how long it takes typically to create a track, and what my costs are. From there, I send them samples. It can take on an average of two weeks to create a good song. Sometimes it may take longer based on revisions requested. In regards to costs, it all depends on the project but I do have standard basic rates to begin.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's fun but it does take time to create a great song. Nothing should be rushed.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I typically ask my clients what style of music they are wanting to do. I like to hear a sample of their voice so that I know which direction to go with the song. And I ask what their career path and history has been like in regards to their music.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be sure to choose a producer who is very creative and not just a basic producer who only adds generic sounds to your song. As stated in the previous answer, the producer needs to think outside the box.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Drum Pad, Keyboard, Guitar, Interface, Mac
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out being a DJ while at the same time writing lyrics and creating music on the side. From there, and after helping so many people with their songs, I started my own label in which I now have a worldwide contract for distribution through Tommy Boy.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm very versatile. I create music that relates to what's happening in the world music-wise today.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Rihanna, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, ay-Z, and Christina Aguilera. They are all of the best in the industry and fit my style of producing. They are versatile artists and together we could create more magic.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Think outside the box. Create music that stands out and makes your audience think about what they've just heard in every aspect of the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on pop, r&b, hip hop, rock, and a bit of country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my creative mind being able to create songs and videos that stand out and are award worthy.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The songs that I create are of high quality and are competitive with some of the best songs out on the radio. I create songs based on the voice and style of the artist.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When creating a full song for instance for one of my artists, we either create a song beat and then form everything else around it from there such as vocal melody. Or we come up with a vocal melody first, and then create the instrumentals from there. Once the song is created production wise and recorded, from there it goes to mixing and mastering to be ready for radio.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is set up with everything needed to create instrumentals as well as vocals. Keys, strings, drum pads, mics, are all included as they should be. We produce using Logix and Pro Tools.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My greatest musical inspiration is Michael Jackson due to his talent and hard work ethic. When he was in the studio or on stage, there was always our perfection. That is what I will always believe in as well. I'm also inspired by artists such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, P Diddy, John Legend, Ed Sheehan, and many others.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I produce full songs from conception to songs that are already partially done and just need added work to get them to where they need to be on a high production level. Production includes full instrumentals plus song writing.
