Interview with Profile User 87982
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was the tracking engineer, mixer, and mastering engineer for my close friend X the Outkast who is dropping his album in 2022. Best lyricist I've ever heard and such an authentic talent. Very hyped for him.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on multiple independent albums and 2 big label projects that I can't reveal anything about but I am super excited.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Plenty of great talent on here...
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Fine strokes with digital and some nice broad moves with analog go really nice.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will go my hardest to bring your track to the next level in any way I can. I do this out of love and respect for the game.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Making the artists/clients super happy and even more excited about their music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long does it take you to master 1 track? -It takes 45 mins-2 hrs for me not including revisions.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That engineering is technical and not creative.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Did you work your hardest on this piece? It is genuine?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure your believe in what you're doing!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: UAD Apollo Twin, Laptop, Midi controller, Mojave MA-1000, Headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 15 years! Worked with mostly amateurs and some professionals. Couple superstars but I don't like to name names. I let the sounds do the talking.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful, Simple yet Unique.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Don Toliver, Giveon, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Paul McCartney, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Baby, Frank Ocean, The 1975.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Keep building and destroying until you are left with the simplest form of your material.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop/Rnb, Hip-Hop, Classical, Metal, Jazz
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is listening and being creative.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Years of passion, knowledge, experience, and love for the craft. A broad skillset in which I excel at a few but very important things. Anything you need I can offer some valuable input.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I make sure that I keep my overall physical and mental health in good shape to be able to work with full focus. I work as much as I can but give my ears regular breaks. Between masters I'll step out of the room and walk around for a minute. Maybe drink some water. I'll review things in multiple environments to ensure a consistent mix/master and really tweak things till I feel everything is exceptionally dialed in.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Very simple. Massive CPU power, UAD plugins/FabFilter, few but excellent hardware pieces. I have some excellent software I made myself. Great microphones, guitars, and synths etc. Gear is not too important ;)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Frank Dukes, Dave Kutch, Mike Dean, MixedbyAli, Mike Bozzi, Tom Elmhirst, Illangelo, to name just a few!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am most typically hired for mastering as that is where my most impressive work lives. Especially for the price I have been told I deliver results that surpass pros who charge 250+!
