Nick was wonderful to work with! He's a talented producer who has a clear vision of what he wants for his track. He was also very quick and clear in terms of communication and providing feedback, which makes the collaborative process very smooth and productive. I am proud and excited to release our final product! Thanks for having me Nick!

Interview with Nick

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently completed a mix of the song "She Doesn't Get It" for Rec Hall. The song has nearly 4M streams on Spotify since its release at the end of last year. We currently have lots of new music in the works!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I've recently been mixing a lo-fi album called "Singularity" for Steve Nguyen (https://open.spotify.com/artist/0uWdW9U87jBwkzaz0Ts8p6?si=HsewNb-bQSWuGT7rDdb0AA). The album is due in February 2022.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: While I love an analog console, I prefer the ease of a digital environment. I occasionally process tracks through analog equipment for harmonics or warmth, but prefer to do the final mix digitally.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise to continually deliver exceptional quality work for all clients, regardless of budget.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love listening to new music and feeling inspired by what others are creating!

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: We don't mix on large format analog consoles anymore, but it's always fun!

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What do you like/dislike about your current demo mix? What type of emotion do you want the song to convey? Do you have any reference tracks for how you would like the mix to sound?

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Stay creative! It's easy to forget to experiment and try new things! If you're feeling frustrated creatively, take a break, get inspired, and try a new approach with fresh ears.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I primarily work on alternative, pop, and indie mixes.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I believe clear communication is one of my strongest skills. Understanding a client's needs and questions is imperative to creating a positive working relationship and delivering the best product possible.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring over 10+ years of music industry experience in production, mixing, and mastering.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I enjoy getting to know my clients and story behind their music. I often ask questions to understand the important elements in a track and the emotions the final mix should convey. I am always open to feedback in order to delivery a product the client is fully satisfied with.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: For the past 10 years, I've been a co-owner and manager of a professional recording studio in Los Angeles, CA. When I'm not at the studio, I'm working on mixes in my home studio. I currently mix on Barefoot Sound monitors in Pro Tools.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: I primarily focus on mixing and mastering for my clients. I addition to mixing and mastering, I also produce and songwrite.
