Ziv tore up a modern Dua Lipa like song. Only two people other than me have heard it thus far and great and terrific were the words used. I’d like to add spectacular to his ten guitar wavs he sent me. He always gives us more than enough to use and catches on like wildfire in the wind igniting your production. I’ve thrown many diverse genres his direction and he grooves splendidly in every challenge. Bottom line, Ziv is my bands guitar player and you NEED to make him your go to guy! No doubt.

Ziv was helpful in a follow-up request to create an alternative version of a song that I’m working on. Things like this happen where you hear a song and then you get new ideas and Ziv was very helpful in iterating on those ideas. He’s great to work with!

Ziv has a golden ear and knows how to tap into the emotion of a song and bring it to life! Will absolutely be working with him again!

Interview with Ziv Shalev
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I loved working and producing primarily The Vanity Belles, Danny Mclaughlin band and The Vinyl Stash. Good music with combination of good people and musicianship is the best.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am producing a Musical.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes. Yoed Nir is incredible Cellist. and Roy Kariok is a fantastic guitarist. Both are wonderful audio engineers as well.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. but! It's all about the speed of delivery thesis days, so Digital takes the lead.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: %100 money back guarantee if they are not satisfied with my work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything. I am very passionate abut what I do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If I can drop down the price for a project. I usually do that for first time clients.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Sometime I think people realize I am a professional producer as well.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: To have a clear vision of what they are looking for.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To have a clear vision of what they are looking for. A reference is wonderful so I could pin point the sound they are after.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Guitar, amplifier, computer, interface and Protools.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing and producing music for 25 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Multi Genre.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Sting. I love everything he does from songwriting to playing his base to his lyrics, voice and productions.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't "fix it in the mix". Music needs to sound amazing before and cosmetic work is done to it. The best projects I worked on did not need a mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop Rock, World Music, Classical and Jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Correspondence. I am very quick to get work done. Nothing lingers, even if I am busy.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to bring first and foremost my own creativity and sound. What the song really needs beyond my personal taste. and depending on the project, radio friendly or commercial sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I first discuss the genre and what you are looking for from the guitar portion When possible, I encourage my clients to provide a reference to the type of style and sound desired Depending on your preference, I can record a single guitar track or multiple guitar tracks to produce a richer sound or stereo sound. Tracks are then recorded remotely and sent directly to the client. I start with charting the song, opening a new project on PT, deciding what tempo the song is in, and laying out the tracks starting with rhythmic parts and all the way to the lead parts.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Protools on a custom Mac. I use the Apollo 8p as an interface with its magnificent plugins. I have a Whirsperroom isolated booth to maximize mic'ed recording and isolation. I have a variety of amps such as Fender Vibrolux and Marshall JCM800. Endless effects and pedals. I use microphones such as Neumann87, AKGC414 and Royer 121. I always use the best high performance cables. Most of them are Mogami. I also use S-gear and Helix.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The list would be endless but here are top few: Jeff Lynn, Quincy Johns, Queen, John Mayer, Steve Lord Alge, Chris Rock, Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, Fufus Wainwright.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do guitar work for my clients, whether it's single, multiple layer guitar work, it is all done within a couple of days. I have a variety of guitars to choose from, for all genres including nylon, acoustic guitar, ukulele or mandolin. I also compose and arrange music for singer/songwriters as well as audio engineering projects such as editing, vocal tuning and mixing and mastering as well
