Interview with Nicola D'Adamo
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: * ( STEP 1 ) I play the whole song 3 or 4 times, listening carefully while making markers in my digital audio workspace regarding the structure, ostinato, and any cool musical riffs by the other instruments that I can reinforce with my drumming. * ( STEP 2 ) Following the artist's sound references, I start developing the right drum sound for their song. I experiment with different setups, trying various snares, kicks, cymbals, etc. This helps me figure out which drum set is best for their needs. * ( STEP 3 ) I start recording! If I don't receive sheet music or a programmed beat as a reference, I’ll start finding the right musical balance with the other instruments, putting most of my attention on the vocal or melody track. The goal here is to support the song and not steal any focus. * ( STEP 4 ) Lastly, I will listen to each part of my session. If it’s all good to me, then I’ll bounce (meaning combine) all of my drums together in one file so the artist can review it easily. If there’s any change needed, I’ll implement the revisions. Once approved, (this is an extra), all the stems are sent

A: I have 15 years of experience as a professional session drummer working for producers and songwriters worldwide. BA Degree in Drums and Percussions for Contemporary Music.

A: Its a good question... Its hard to say... most of all I play Rock, Pop-Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Indie

A: I've been playing for more than 15 years in studio and live in dancing clubs around Italy, playing every kind of music trying, for years, to bring the right feel on each kind of music. I bring more then 15 years of experience, feel, sound research and right groove for song supporting the lyrics.

A: In my studio I use different Drums Set and a wide range of snares, Sabian Cymbals Set. AKG Microphones, SE Electronics, Shure, Sennheiser and high quality preamplifiers, such as Neve, Api, Midas.
