Abrianne on SoundBetter

I'm a singer-songwriter and experienced background vocalist with a passion for harmonies and thoughtful vocal layering. From stacking intricate BGVs to adding subtle layers that bring a chorus to life, I love finding the vocal details that make a song feel complete.

Hey! I'm Abrianne, a singer-songwriter and vocalist based in Seattle, WA.

I specialize in background vocals, harmony arrangement, and vocal stacking, with a particular love for pop, jazz, and singer-songwriter music. I love finding the harmonies that make a song feel fuller and add emotional depth.

My background includes songwriting, vocal performance, and music production, and I'm especially passionate about the creative collaboration that happens when artists bring their individual ideas and instincts together.

Whether you have a specific harmony part in mind or want someone to experiment and find what works, I'm happy to meet you where you are creatively! I deeply value communication, attention to detail, and making the process feel collaborative and fun.

Interview with Abrianne

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I'm especially proud of is a record I worked on with my friend Dani Erin. Being able to contribute to a friend's music is already incredibly special, but what made this project mean so much to me was the opportunity to help her tell her story through music. My role involved contributing background vocals and harmonies, helping build out the vocal layers and bring her songs to life. I loved getting to experiment creatively while supporting her vision and the emotions behind each song. I'm really proud of the music we made and I'm proud of Dani for putting herself out there and sharing something personal. There's something incredibly powerful and encouraging about watching someone you care about use their voice to tell their story. It reminded me why I love making music with other people in the first place. It's about so much more than getting the right notes!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I'm focusing on writing and developing my own music while expanding into remote session work and collaborating with other artists. I'm working on building a collection of songs for a future project, experimenting with vocal arrangements, and continuing to grow my recording and production skills in Logic Pro. I'm also building my portfolio as a background vocalist and excited to connect with artists who could use some extra harmonies, vocal layers, or a creative ear on their next track. Lots of music-making over here! :)

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm still getting familiar with the SoundBetter community, so I don't have anyone specific to recommend just yet! That said, I'm a big believer in collaboration and connecting artists with people who are a great fit for their project. If I come across someone whose work I love and who I think would be a good match for a client's needs, I'd absolutely be happy to make an introduction or recommendation.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, whenever I can! There's just something special about physical media. I appreciate how convenient and powerful digital tools are (I definitely rely on them for recording and production!), but there's something about the tangible, human side of analog that I don't think can be replaced. I'm a sucker for anything that makes music feel a little more personal.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to bring care, creativity, and intention to every project. I'll take the time to understand your vision, listen closely to what the song needs, and give each vocal part the attention it deserves. I promise clear communication, thoughtful collaboration, and a genuine investment in helping bring your ideas to life. I want you to feel heard, supported, and excited about what we're creating together. Your song matters to me, and I'll treat it that way!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Collaboration! I love that music gives people a way to connect and communicate things that can sometimes be hard to put into words. There's something so satisfying about experimenting with harmonies, finding a blend that just clicks, and hearing how a few vocal layers can completely transform a song.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: "Can you create the harmonies, or do I need to have them written already?" Absolutely! I'm happy to work either way. If you have specific parts in mind, I can bring them to life. If you just have a general idea or want me to get creative, I can experiment with different harmonies, layers, and textures and find what feels right for the song. "What do you need from me to get started?" A demo or instrumental, the song's key and tempo (if available), and a little direction about the sound you're going for. Reference tracks are always helpful, too! Most importantly, I want to understand your vision. "Can you send individual vocal tracks?" Of course! I provide individually labeled vocal stems so you can mix and place each part however you'd like. I can also include a reference mix so you can hear everything together.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I think there's sometimes a misconception that singers aren't musicians in the same way instrumentalists are. Your voice is an instrument, too! There's so much musicianship involved in understanding melody, harmony, rhythm, phrasing, tone, dynamics, and how different parts work together. Especially with background vocals and arrangement, you're making musical decisions that shape the entire feel of a song. Just because you don't see someone holding an instrument doesn't mean they're not bringing musicianship to the table!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I like to get a feel for the song and what the artist is hoping to create before jumping in. Some questions I'd ask: - What's the overall vibe or feeling you're hoping to capture? - Do you have any reference tracks or artists whose vocal sound you love? - Are there specific harmonies or backing vocal parts already written, or would you like me to experiment and arrange something? - Are you looking for subtle layers, full harmony stacks, doubles, ad-libs, or a combination? - Is there anything you specifically want me to avoid or keep in mind? - What's your timeline and preferred file format for delivery? Most importantly, I want to understand your vision and make sure we're on the same page. I'm always happy to bounce around ideas and explore what works best for the song!

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Come with an open mind and don't be afraid to share your ideas, even if you aren't totally sure how to explain what you're hearing! Reference tracks, rough demos, specific directions, or even just a feeling you're trying to capture are all helpful starting points. Find someone who listens, communicates well, and is excited about your vision. And remember, collaboration is a two-way street! Leave a little room for experimentation and trust the process. Sometimes the best parts come from trying something you didn't initially imagine!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My Audio-Technica AT2020 microphone, my Focusrite Scarlett interface, my laptop (with Logic Pro), a solid pair of studio headphones, and a little MIDI keyboard.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember! I studied music in college, where I explored vocal performance, songwriting, and music production, and I've continued developing those skills through my own music and collaborations with other artists. I've spent several years singing, writing, recording, and experimenting with background vocals and harmony arrangements. I've released original music, contributed vocals to other artists' projects, and have been building my home recording setup and production workflow to expand into remote session work. I'm at an exciting point in my musical journey where I'm putting more intention into offering my voice and creativity to other artists. I'm always learning, experimenting, and finding new ways to grow.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I'd describe my style as expressive, intuitive, and harmony-driven. I love blending warm, natural-sounding vocals with thoughtful layers and interesting textures. Sometimes that means creating lush, full harmonies, and other times it's just a few subtle parts that add something special. I try to listen closely to what a song needs rather than force a particular sound, and I love leaving room for a little experimentation along the way!

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Stevie Nicks, without a doubt! I'm endlessly inspired by her voice, songwriting, and the way she brings so much character and emotion to every song. I love the layered harmonies and vocal textures in Fleetwood Mac's music, and there's something so special about the way her voice feels both powerful and intimate. Getting to contribute vocals to a song with that kind of storytelling and musical history would be an absolute dream!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't underestimate the power of subtlety! When layering background vocals, every part doesn't need to be big or complicated to make an impact. Sometimes a simple harmony tucked just underneath the lead, a double on a key lyric, or a little texture in the chorus can completely change how a song feels. Make space for the lead vocal to shine, and let each layer have a purpose. More isn't always more!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I gravitate toward pop, indie, and singer-songwriter music, especially songs with interesting vocal textures, thoughtful songwriting, and room for harmonies to shine. I'm open to working across genres, though, and always excited to explore something new with an artist!

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Harmony stacking and background vocals! I love finding the right blend of notes, layers, and textures to complement a lead vocal. I'm especially drawn to building rich, expressive harmonies that add depth and emotion without overcrowding a song. I also have a good ear for how vocals can work together, and I really enjoy experimenting until everything feels just right.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a good ear for harmony, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine love for finding the little vocal details that make a song feel fuller. I love experimenting with layers, textures, and unexpected harmonies while staying true to the emotion and direction of the song. Whether it's a subtle supporting part or a big, layered chorus, my goal is to complement the lead vocal, add depth, and help bring the artist's vision to life without taking away from what makes the song theirs.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I like to start by getting a feel for the song and understanding the artist's vision. We'll chat about the sound you're going for, any reference tracks, and whether you have specific harmonies in mind or want me to get creative. From there, I'll map out the vocal parts, record and layer the harmonies, and spend time editing and making sure everything blends nicely. I'll send over organized, individually labeled vocal stems along with a reference mix so you can hear everything in context. Communication is important to me, and I want the process to feel collaborative, easy, and fun. I'm always happy to hear feedback and make adjustments so we can get the vocals just right!

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I record from my home studio in Seattle using an Audio-Technica AT2020 condenser microphone and a Focusrite Scarlett 4th Gen audio interface. I work in Logic Pro and have a setup that allows me to record, layer, edit, and export individual vocal stems for remote sessions. I'm continually refining my workflow to ensure clean, consistent recordings and high-quality deliveries. I'm comfortable collaborating remotely and providing organized vocal tracks ready for your mix!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm really inspired by artists who use their voices as an instrument and aren't afraid to experiment with harmonies, layers, and textures. Madison Cunningham is a big one for me, especially her approach to songwriting and vocal arrangement. I'm also drawn to the vocal layering and production in artists like Bon Iver, The Japanese House, and Maggie Rogers. I love when harmonies add something unexpected to a song while still feeling natural and emotionally connected to it. I'm always excited to discover new artists and learn from the creative ways people approach making music!

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most of my work involves recording background vocals and building layered harmonies for pop, indie, and singer-songwriter tracks. I love finding the right blend of harmonies, doubles, and vocal textures to complement a lead vocal and bring a little more depth and emotion to a song. Sometimes clients come to me with specific parts in mind, and other times I get to experiment and create something of my own. I really enjoy both sides of that collaboration!
