I'm an LA session guitarist, bassist & songwriter on releases such as LiL Lotus - "Nosebleeder" LP (Epitaph), The Plain White T's - "Party All Alone" (Fearless), & Cassadee Pope - "Bad Decisions" (Awake). Bassist for Weatherbox since 2013. One proud accomplishment: playing guitar for The Front Bottoms Champagne Jam Tours 2021 & 2022. Let's write!
My name is AJ Peacox. Since 2013 I've toured on guitar & bass in bands such as Weatherbox, The Front Bottoms, Oso Oso, Sundressed, Tiny Stills, Kit Major, & The Higher. I've written & tracked on releases for KINGS, senses, Sam Short, Olivver the Kid, & The Plain White T's.
I'm offering electric guitar, electric bass, acoustic guitar, & ukulele tracking services for your songs. As a songwriter & arranger, I can compose my own parts or turn your ideas into real tracks. I'm also extremely comfortable reading sheet music, tabs, and/or learning by ear. I'm comfortable with almost any style, but my catalog leans heavily towards emo, indie, rock, alternative, acoustic, pop punk, alt pop, & punk rock genres.
I record my guitar & bass tracks in my studio using a set of custom STL Tones digital amplifiers that were captured from my own playing on my own instruments. I can also supply direct input signals for amping/re-amping to your liking. For acoustic instruments, I use a custom U87 clone condenser mic in my treated recording space in North Hollywood, CA.
Hire me because I care about serving your song as a whole, not just the parts I'm recording!

Endorse AJ Peacox1 Reviews

I’ve had the pleasure of working with AJ on several occasions, and it’s always been a great experience. He’s an absolute pleasure to work with, he is an excellent communicator, brings great ideas to the table, and is an incredible shredder.
Most importantly, he always puts the music first.
AJ combines a professional approach with serious musical and technical skills, and I’d be more than happy to work with him again and collaborate with him at any scale.
Interview with AJ Peacox
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Everything I've written with Olivver the Kid is top-tier AJ guitars, bass, & songwriting.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My own project Glow & the Dark!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Rob Nagelhout for bass, Gideon Berger for drums.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Tell me your story, influences, goals, and references. That's all I need to deliver the guitars, bass, or songwriting that you need!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated music school in 2013 & immediately started a tour with Weatherbox on bass opening for The Front Bottoms. One that tour I met Sundressed, who I joined & got signed to Rude Records for 2 LPs. I began daily songwriting sessions for dozens (if not hundreds) of artists alongside the producer of those LPs. I moved to LA fulltime and met Kit Major in a bar, who I began co-writing, co-producing, & touring with on guitar. My career spans 10+ years of touring, hundreds of songwriting sessions, cuts with The Plain White T's & Cassadee Pope, and guitar/bass runs with Oso Oso, The Front Bottoms, The Higher, and dozens more.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A punk kid who learned music theory.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to write & record with the band Beach Bunny because I think they're one of the last original rock bands that don't rely on any production gimmicks - just killer guitar arrangements, heartfelt songwriting, & Lily's amazing vocal performances.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The best way to mic an acoustic guitar is to play the mic at the 12th fret angled toward the sound hole, so you're getting high end sparkle with low end punch at the same time, instead of one or the other.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, rock, or acoustic genres that lean into punk rock, alt pop, or "warped tour" / "emo nite" influences.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Rapid transposition & a deep understanding of music theory & harmony. I can find 2 or 3 ways to play the same chords or riffs that subtly change the feel. I also formulate plans to achieve your vision, no matter how detailed or open your goals are.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm an emo kid at heart which inspires me to bring my own special open tunings, Eb standard or drop D tunings, chord shapes & guitar tones to sessions, though I'm happy to adapt my playing to always suite the needs of the song or production.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio Dawg City is located in North Hollywood, CA. I employ an Undertone Audio GB Tracker preamp into a UAD Volt or Apogee Quartet for A-to-D into Logic or Pro Tools, and monitor with a pair of Focal Alpha 80's. One of my coolest secret weapons is a suite of amplifier IRs (STL Tones Mike Pepe Artist Pack) that were modeled using my own performances with my own guitars.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Anything from Chappell Roan to Bossa Nova to Post-Hardcore. My favorite bands are The Front Bottoms, Joyce Manor, & blink-182. Guitarists: Brian May (Queen), Arun Bali (Saves the Day), & Elliott Smith. Bassists: Flea (RHCP), Mark Hoppus (blink-182), & Joe Dart (Vulfpeck). Songwriters: Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional), Elliott Smith, Blake Schwartzenbach (Jawbreaker) Producers: Eric Valentine & Jerry Finn.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do guitar, bass & songwriting session work remotely, independently, or in-person.
