Marcus Ogden on SoundBetter

My purpose as a composer is to create music that can immerse a listener through storytelling and emotional experience within film, television, games or other musical contexts. I aim to produce work that evokes feeling and connects to people, while also exploring ways to build imaginative worlds that people enjoy and love at a personal level.

Marcus Ogden (he/him) is a Sydney-based composer involved in the creative industries, particularly film, television and games. His musical experience spans multiple disciplines, including performance, tutoring, and composing for a wide variety of projects, ranging from screen to art music and even atmospheric soundscapes.

He has studied piano for seventeen years and is completing a Bachelor of Music (Composition for Creative Industries) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His musical voice draws from many contemporary influences, particularly Australian composer Christopher Larkin.

Marcus’ experiences reach across many musical genres; his composition ‘Whispers on the Water’, a musical portrait of Sydney Harbour, was recorded by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra after selection for their OpenScore program, a significant early achievement. Other notable works he has developed are soundtracks to indie games through game jams and collaborative events, and the soundtrack to the short film ‘Foot on the Line’.

His latest project is ‘Cycles’, a 30‑minute production for film festival submission in Perth. This piece reflects his previous interests in evoking musical landscapes through sound, while also his passion of using music to embody character and emotion and bring artistic visions to life.
