Interview with Ben Serra

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I don't really have a style for my productions I do for artists. My DATWHITEBOI project is heavily hip-hop & EDM influenced, but this page is for all genres.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: My strongest skill is mastering songs for artists, but I would also say that my other strength lies in sound design. Overall, I enjoy every step of an artist's development, and it makes me happy to see my clients happy with their results.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I have as listed below: - 1 AKAI MPK249 - 1 Scarlett 18i8 Audio Interface - 1 Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro Headphones - 2 KRK Rokit G3 - 1 Gibson SG Electric Guitar This is constantly updated.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Be clear and concise about what you want, descriptive of your intentions and no vagueness. References are so important to the process; a consistent line of communication is desired because it is a collaborative project, even to the extent that it could be via phone call etc. if you desire. I want you to be happy with the project, and I need you to put the same work ethic into your proposal as I will.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Pop, EDM, Hip Hop, Metal and Rock have been a majority of what I have worked on, but as I said before, I can adjust to every genre's need.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I bring 3 years of professional songwriting experience, 10 years of working in the music production industry & 5 years of professional recording experience. I have been a performing musician for over 14 years. I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music (BAS - Music Production) and I have an extensive catalog of songs that prove my work ethic to my clients.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: If you are looking for collaboration on track creation, obviously I start by asking what you are looking for and create a couple tracks tailored to your specific wants. If you are sending me tracks for mastering/mixing, I will start by comping any of your vocals or instruments I hear that are off tempo. I have extensive training via my work at Evenbreak Studios on how to identify off tempo recordings and how to properly align the recordings with minimal warping. Second, I will compress the tracks, add reverb and any effects I feel will give the track more space; with your approval of course. Thirdly, I stem out the track, bring into another session and chop/raise the overall levels of the track via mastering programs. This way I can create tighter, thicker and wide tracks without the clutter of the original session. After that, it's cut, print and Bam, you have yourself a hit song!

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Scott Storch, Murda Beats, Rick Rubin & Diplo are some of my inspirations in production

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I produce high quality tracks for artists who predominantly want pop & hip hop music, but I have also worked with clients in other genres.
