My goal is always to under promise and over deliver ! I am an electric bass player based in Southern CA, and for many years I have been asked to play creative and/or structured bass lines for many, many artists in varying styles. It's all about originality ! You want your music to be special, well so do I ! I take special care to provide that.
1.) CONTACT ME ! Tell me about your project, and what you would like. I'm all about getting to know what you're looking for. If I am not familiar with the genre, I will refer you to a specialist in that particular style of music.
2.) COLLABORATE ! Let's work together and get the part you want. Tell me how you want it. I am fanatical about tone. If you have chord sheets, or any written music, all the better.
3.) I use very high quality gear in my studio. Avalon U5 preamp, Phil Jones miked amp, and Phil Jones Bass Buddy, Ken Smith/Stephen Sukop/Fender Jazz, (all 5 string). I play fretless and fretted basses.
4.) COMMUNICATE ! The more you tell me, the more I can do, so don't hesitate to communicate your needs and wants so you receive the best performance possible.
5.) I'm usually noted for a very clean, even tone, and my creativity. I've worked with a great many wonderful artists and musicians. From New York, Nashville and Los Angeles, and musicians/artists from all over the world. I have a great deal of experience and just love what I'm doing! I also do a great deal of "ghost sessions", where I am asked to record bass for many people you may have heard of ! When you use my service, your project instantly becomes a top priority !

Mark was super enthusiastic and it was great working with him. He made himself a team player rather than a hired gun and it shows in his work. I definitely recommend him as a session player.

I'm music producer in south korea. Working music industry over 15 years. this guy, Mark is amazing. All the note is fit perfectly and rock solid. He not only very nice bass player but also He has a perfect attitude to make good music. I'm really happy to cooperate with him. I will be with him on my every music work.
I recruited Mark to play bass on a full-length release that is still in production. I also entrusted him with picking a drummer for the project, which was a huge leap in trust for me. I flew them out to record at Hyde Street Studios. The results were stunning and more than justified the expense. Mark's sound and technique are amazing.
Mark has worked with me for many months for my group Counting Clouds and always delivers excellent and perfect bass sounds for our music, every time.
In my eyes by far the best bass player on this website.

Interview with Mark Corradetti
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now I am based in Southern California working at Rose Lane Studios in various projects. I have a blues project from germany, a somewhat techno/chill project from France, and a dance track from Australia on my plate right now, a hip hop thing, and some jazz fusion as well. Also, some ongoing things. I'm always playing !
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just be honest, and forthright. Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it, and communicate !
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I think they both have their place. Nothing wrong with 2 inch tape with that great natural compression. Digital has become a standard, as it becomes easy to exchange tracks worldwide.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love to play and compose, and see people happy with the music. I get a charge out of hearing the final product !
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I'd probably just bring suntan oil, and sunglasses.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: This has always been my career path. I've been doing this nonstop since I was 15 or so. Then Berklee, then the New York Metropolitan area, then the Nashville area, and now all over the place !
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A recent project from Germany, one from France that were very good. I can't name names because I do not have their permission to do so at this time. Also, another interesting project from Korea, and I travel to Rose Lane Studios in California for work as well. Local projects in Nashville. In all cases, I play whatever I'm asked and give it my all.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: a clean, strong signal and sound goes a long way.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I play a great deal of pop and world music, which covers a lot of ground insofar as style. My role is usually in the rhythm section, so I am very concerned about being in sync with the drummer rhythmically, and playing the right notes to compliment the melody or vocal. It really depends on the piece of music. The music doesn't lie, ever..
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'd say there are several. A great tone, and a great attitude go a long way whether in person, or remotely. I also have a knack for being able to get several ideas in several takes which gives the client/artist choices. Also, being able to read in between the lines of directions, and give more than what is asked.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I rely on my ears and formal/informal training mainly. After listening to a piece of music, I'll usually write a chart for the music as a roadmap. Then I'll try out different parts, and when I feel comfortable, I'll start playing takes. There really is no clear cut "one" way. Whatever it takes to get the right take.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is mainly set up to load other peoples tracks and provide bass parts. I use Nuendo as my DAW, and record directly from an Avalon U5 into a Phil Jones Bass Buddy preamp, from a variety of basses, ( both fretted and fretless ), directly on my DAW. I have a large 33 inch screen.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Glenn Thomas from Iaudio out of Canada. he's a great engineer and does some fine work on mastering !
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise, is I always give it my best without fail. Everytime.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They mainly ask if I have time. The answer is, I always have time to play !
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Can you earn a living from it ? The answer is yes, I do very well.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: what style is it, or what are you going for? Do you have any examples of a particular line, or may I have creative freedom?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am definitely flexible in that regard. I have a pop, rock and jazz background, and that has served me very well, translating to a variety of genres. But there are some things that are better left to other players. I am not well versed in certain things such as bluegrass, and some types of latin music, so there are definitely things that are better suited for other players other than me. I just take it project to project, and if I am not the guy, I say so.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Good question.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Personally, I come early and stay late. I bring an open mind, and enthusiasm to my bass parts. I want to provide great support and serve the song. I also bring a great signature sound, and inventive sounding parts.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I greatly admire all the greats, the knowns and not so knowns. Anybody that plays and/or records great music has got my vote.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I get called typically to provide a great clean tone, and an inventive bass part in the style that is at hand, to serve the particular song. Also, and this is a big one for many people...to not overplay !
