Interview with Daniel Carnago

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I have performed live and toured internationally as a Tres Cubano player, bringing authentic Cuban music to audiences around the world. On the recording side, I played Tres, guitar and bass, and mixed an Afrobeats album entirely from my home studio.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Performing live and touring internationally, while also offering remote Tres Cubano session recording for producers worldwide

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. I record analog with a real instrument and condenser mic for warmth and character, then deliver digitally for flexibility and ease of use.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Authentic sound, clean files, fast delivery, and open communication until you're happy with the result.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Bringing a sound that surprises people. Most producers have never heard a real Tres on their track — and when they do, it transforms the song.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: "Can you play in my style?" — Yes, I adapt to the project. Send me a reference and I'll match the vibe while keeping the Cuban authenticity.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That the Tres Cubano is just a small guitar. It's a completely different instrument with its own tuning, technique, and character.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What's the genre and tempo? Do you have a reference track? Do you need dry stems, wet stems, or both?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Share your reference track and tell me the vibe you're going for. The more context you give, the better I can serve your vision.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My Tres Cubano, Rode condenser mic, Focusrite Scarlett, laptop with DAW, and headphones.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I grew up in Cuba surrounded by music. I've been playing Tres Cubano for over 20 years, performing and recording across multiple genres

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Rooted in traditional Cuban music but open to fusion. I play with feeling and rhythm first — technique serves the song.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Cimafunk — he bridges Cuban roots with modern funk and Afrobeats in a way that feels fresh and authentic. The Tres fit perfectly in his sound.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Record the Tres dry and always keep a clean take — the magic happens in the arrangement, not the effects

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Cuban son, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Bolero, Guaracha, Cha-cha-chá, Afrobeats, Latin fusion, and world music.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Playing Tres Cubano with deep knowledge of Cuban rhythms — son, bolero, guaracha, cha-cha-chá — and adapting them to modern productions.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: The authentic Cuban sound that no sample library can replicate. The Tres Cubano has a unique texture rooted in decades of tradition.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Client shares the track or reference. I record the Tres part, review it, and deliver WAV files — dry and wet — usually within 24 hours.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I record with a Rode condenser microphone through a Focusrite Scarlett interface, using a professional DAW. I can deliver dry or wet stems depending on the client's needs.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Compay Segundo, Buena Vista Social Club, and the great Cuban son musicians who kept the tradition alive while connecting it to the world.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I record Tres Cubano parts for artists and producers who need authentic Cuban sound on their tracks. I deliver clean, mix-ready WAV files with dry and wet stems.
