Hybrid Mix & Master Engineer

Nick McEnally on SoundBetter

Professional hybrid analog/digital mixing and mastering engineer with 15+ years experience creating release-ready records for artists and sync music. Fast turnaround and broadcast-quality sound.

If you're ready for your track to sound clear, powerful and competitive, I’d love to help.

I'm a professional mixing and mastering engineer with over 15 years of experience working in music production, composition, mixing and mastering. My work includes music created for television, film and major sync libraries and I’ve spent my career working in high-end professional studios.

My work is published on major labels including BMG, Universal, Warner Chappell, Sony & EMI with syncs for Dancing With The Stars (ABC), Top Gear/The Grand Tour (BBC/Amazon), Gillette, Sony Games, Ford and Sky Sports.

I specialise in taking a finished production and turning it into a polished, release-ready record that translates across streaming platforms, headphones, cars, clubs and broadcast.

I work using a hybrid analog and digital setup, combining the warmth, depth and musical character of analog hardware with the precision and flexibility of modern digital tools. This workflow allows me to create mixes that feel rich, punchy and modern while maintaining clarity and musicality.

My goal is simple: make your track sound like the best version of itself.

Typical turnaround time is 48–72 hours per song, depending on the project.

Feel free to send me your track along with a reference mix you like and I’ll be happy to discuss how we can bring your music to its full potential.

Interview with Nick McEnally

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Absolutely both! I love analog for its character, authenticity and depth while digital is fantastic for flexibility, efficiency, and practicality. The Wes Audio analog gear I use is digitally recallable via a DAW plugin which is an absolute game changer.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Make sure you have a clear vision for what you want out of your mix. When sending stems for mixing, include as much or as little processing as you feel is necessary. If the processing is part of the character of your song, leave it on - this includes compression, EQ, reverb, delay. If any of the processing is not essential, feel free to remove it. Printing any reverb/delays as a separate stem is also very helpful, and I encourage this. Any vocal tuning should be completed beforehand. Always include your rough mix for reference.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I primarily work as a composer and producer of production music and sync. I started at an award-winning production music house over 15 years ago as an in-house composer, producer and engineer, amassing many major TV and movie credits as well as syncs and production music publication on major labels. My career has seen me work on a wide variety of music, and I've worked on projects in major studios such as Abbey Road.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is musical and detail-oriented. I focus on enhancing the emotion and energy of a track while maintaining clarity, depth, and balance. My goal is always to elevate the song while staying true to the artist’s vision.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: It’s easy to make instruments sound great in solo, but what really matters is how they sit in the mix. Always judge EQ, compression, and effects in context so every element supports the overall record.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I work across all genres, but I especially love working on music with live recorded parts - whether that's pop, rock, indie, acoustic or singer/songwriter.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My strongest skill is my ability to understand music from multiple perspectives. With many years of experience working across a wide range of genres, combined with my background as a musician, composer, and producer, I’m able to approach mixing and mastering with a deep musical understanding. This allows me to enhance the emotion, arrangement, and sonic balance of a track while staying true to the artist’s vision.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring clarity, depth, and emotional impact to a song. My goal is to enhance the artist’s vision while making sure every element sits perfectly in the mix.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I begin by reviewing the rough mix, and then discussing the artist’s vision and references. I then build the mix by establishing a strong balance and shaping the sound using a hybrid analog and digital workflow. After the mix is approved, if mastering is required, I master the track to optimise tone, dynamics, and loudness so it translates well across all listening platforms. Final masters are delivered once the client is happy with the result.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I work in a professionally acoustically treated studio space utilising some of the best equipment available: Neve, Rupert Neve Designs, SSL, Chandler, Wes Audio and IGS hardware, Present Day Productions MUM-8 full range monitoring with Trinnov Nova optimisation, Audeze MM-500 headphones, and Antelope Orion and Grace conversion. I work in Pro Tools and Logic Pro with a wide selection of industry standard plugins.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I focus on high-quality hybrid analog mixing and mastering, combining the precision of modern digital tools with the warmth and character of professional analog hardware to deliver polished, industry-standard records. I work closely with artists and producers to enhance clarity, depth, punch, and musicality while preserving the original vision of the track.
