Interview with Malik Jalla
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on several short-film audio productions and their music compositions where I handled recording and mixing. These projects strengthened my cinematic approach to sound and taught me how to deliver clarity and emotion under real production deadlines.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is just technical—great mixing is both technical and musical, shaping the emotion of the song.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing, recording, and mixing for over 6 years, working both in music production and in the cinema/audiovisual field where I mixed and recorded audio for more than 10 short films.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Capture the cleanest possible recording first—great source recordings make mixing significantly easier and more powerful.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the artist’s vision and references, clean and prepare the session, build the mix step-by-step, then refine through revisions until the final master is approved.
