Interview with Davis Mallory
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I sing all the time anyway so it's fun to be able to make a career out of being a singer, and making art out of lyrics and melodies.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't produce.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are their songs you have in mind for me to listen to before writing, is there anything unique about where you don't want lyrics (for example the drop), what would you like the song to be about? What is your timeline for a release? Will this be going on a label?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me some references (both lyrical and melody) to help guide me as to what you want.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Microphone. Phone with Wi-Fi. MacBook. Headphones & Audio Interface.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I had my first co-write in 2011 and have written easily over 400 songs since then, I have 10 songs signed to record labels.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I get compared to George Michael, Justin Timberlake, Prince and Michael Jackson often in the recording studio for my writing style, but I think my voice is unique from each of theirs.
