Interview with Alain Croisy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: i worked on tourist lemc here in belgium. being the co-producer on a lot of his tracks and doing all the mixing recording and mastering. we went double platinum with that artist. next is felix da hosuecat. because he thought me how to make electronic music and how to feel it. moved to atlanta for 5 years, living and working together there. it was a interesting expierence.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: a lot of productions and mixes mostly. as always.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: i don't know anybody yet. but if i do i will recommend it .

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: i used to work with analog gear back in the days. but i was also one of the first to implement and embrace the digital side to making music. because it makes the job a lot faster. no tape head cleaning, no contact spray, less tapes to buy, or DAT's. so it's a lot cheaper. these days with the powerful computer out there and a lot of pretty good analog simulation plugins. you can get a pretty good result i.m.h.o. .

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: that i am very devoted to my job. if i tell people that i will make it sound good. i will. always.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: the creativity, the freedom to create something nice. something different.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: how do u survive? i never see you eating while you working. and then i answer; i don't like to eat while i'm working because it makes me not focus and gets me tired.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: that it's an easy job. it's not! it's a lot of hours and frustrations to get to a good result. if you depend on making music by following trends only and piece together a track with sample loops and all sorts of ai tools. it might be easy but if you have to start songs the old way. it's a different story.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Depends on what they ask from me. if it's mixing, i would ask them to export the files correctly. and when it's about producing, i mostly ask them what their roots is and what they like as music. i always dig into their brain to see what they like because it's them that have to be on stage. not me.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: ask me well in advance. not the day before the song has to come out.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: a powerful solar powered generator to power my mac and the rest of my gear. and some tools to build a studio out of palm trees. and some other things to survive. (i'm ex military -)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: i've been doing this for over 35 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Bold

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: nobody specific in mind.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: u are never perfect. you are never too old to learn new things. listen to your artists.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: not one typical style. i like all styles. i like versatility in my job.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: vocal work and cleaning up vocals.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: expertise, power, high sound quality, clean vocals. i try to bring everything the song needs.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: wakeup, drink coffee, get in my studio and start working until i go back to sleep. and i eat just before i go to sleep. never eat during daytime.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Mac Studio m2 ultra, apogee element, 7 ssd's neumann speakers, blue mouse mic, ultrawide 5k display. and me -)

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Too many to name.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Producing, Mixing and Mastering.
