Interview with elbROAD Studios
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Again, contrary to what many people out there might think, it wasn't the big artists, it wasn't the big projects, it was rather the projects that were unknown, by artists full of hope in their eyes and full of melancholy or humility, the artists who often ended up with the wrong people, the artists who often took the wrong turn, and perhaps even the artists who failed multiple times, the artists who wanted to find themselves, the artists who perhaps still haven't made it but who felt understood for once and got the result they wanted. I compare it to my active singing career: the biggest concerts were overwhelming, yes, it's incredible to play in front of 45,000 people, but I gave my best concerts in smaller pubs, bars and clubs where I was very close and intimate with the audience and could become one with them.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I think that, as in everything, long-term partnerships and friendships yield the best results. Let's try to network and work together in the long term so that mutual results become better and better.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both and Hybrid.. There is no standard approach; there is not just one way to make a decision. The decision is made based on what is appropriate. It does not matter whether it is digital, analogue or hybrid; it must be suitable, it must resonate, it must be moving.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Satisfying all my customers and realising art is also my happy place. There is nothing better than positive feedback when you put so much passion and dedication into a project. The best feedback is the success of both, when our art reaches and touches people.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That we turn shit into gold. A lot is possible, you can improve poor material, but you can't turn poor material into winning material. The starting point is everything: the better the material, the better the result. But one thing is certain: no matter how good the material is, if the music and the song aren't strong, then nothing else matters.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are you sure you do know what you want? Are you sure you really like and want analogue sound? Do you have a specific Reference?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just do it, nothing to lose
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Me and my Speakers.. But for all the freaks out there: Thermionic Culture "The Fat Bastard II (Special Limited Edition - Green) - Valvue mixer & EQ Thermionic Culture "The Phoenix Mastering Plus" - Vari-Mu Mastering Compressor IGS Audio "825" - Mastering EQ GOLY "Porter Grinder" - Mastering EQ Gyraf Audio "Gyratec XIV" - True Tube Parallel Passive Mastering EQ,
