Luis Martelo, a Portuguese trumpeter based in England, is a former trumpeter with the Portuguese Army Symphonic Band. He is an artist for the B&S Markneukirchen brand, part of Buffet Crampon. He has won the Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards for the last five consecutive years: best instrumentalist, best new artist, best album, and best band. Luis records for various West End artists, both national and international, including Hollywood films. He has been honored several times by the Portuguese and British governments, including Queen Elizabeth II, through the High Sheriff of Somerset. In 2025, he won the Prestige Awards title of Artist of the Year in the Southwest of England. Since 2023, he has toured solo around the world, performing as a soloist with bands and orchestras, from Portugal, including the Azores and Madeira, to Canada, England, Scotland, Switzerland, among others. He has also given masterclasses and workshops in several countries, including recently in Croatia and Latvia. Between tour stops, he has also played in dozens of musicals throughout England. His versatility, unique sound and style, as well as his unique humor and character, make him one of the most acclaimed trumpet players of the new generation and a well-known face on TV and in the national and international media in general.

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Uber Time, a original track for the Hollywood producer Scott Fivelson, used in one of his Movies.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My world solo Tour, and finishing my new Album too. Recently recorded for Asaf Sagiv, a commercial for an Italian Beer with Francesco Totti. And a few Latin Singers Pop Albums

A: Not sure
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog has a different quality, you can't beat it. But digital makes it easier and quicker. So it depends on where and when
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Professionalism, and quality, no messing around.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Music itself, how not to love it?
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you do remote work? Yes! Can you do various different takes? Yes! Can you send all the steams separately? Yes! Can you try a solo? Yes!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "Do you do this for a living?"
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's your idea about the track? What's the story or feeling behind it? What are you doing with it afterwards?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who can really do it your way.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My trumpet and a Bible. Would be enough for me.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started at 7yo in my home town band, was later a Army Musician for 5 years and then followed the freelance path until two years ago when I started my own world solo Tour which is still up and running. I'm doing this for 29 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a Latin funky style
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Michael Buble. Just love the style, the feeling, the happiness and groove. Same with Sinatra but we can't unfortunately work with him anymore!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do your best, immerse yourself in the music, but never change the client's idea, it's their track, not yours.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work a lot on Latin, Bossa nova, traditional jazz, funk, motown and pop music. Also movie and commercial soundtracks
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is probably the unique sound, feeling and musicality
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the groovy latin powerful touch and sound within the client's own style and requests.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I take from three to 6 days on average to finish the work. Allow two free revisions, after that I'll charge the hourly rate. Will deliver the full quality raw steams, unless asked different.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a professional studio set up at home, ready to produce, compose and record Vocals, horns, strings or keys

A: Remote or at location trumpet and Flugelhorn Sessions.

I'm pretty Flexible, and everything depends on the Job. Usually would allow 2 revisions, the 3rd revision will be at hourly rate charge. I take on average three days to one week to finish the job.
