Mixing and mastering are simply my passion. Like a beautiful, dark art.
As a sound engineer for TV and streaming productions, you deal with difficult voices and poor signal quality on a daily basis. I've successfully met this challenge for 10 years, training my ear in the process, and I bring this expertise to bear with dedication when mixing and mastering your music production.
In recent years I have mixed over 100 songs, primarily from US and Canadian productions. I strive to combine musical understanding and a well-trained ear in the best possible way.
Since I still need to earn the big credits like Celine Dion or U2, prices start at $100 per song (includes mixing and mastering, plus two revisions) for a radio-ready sound :)
I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.
Interview with Mike Møller
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was the sound engineer for a live TV performance by Dante Thomas. He was so incredibly good...
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have completed two mixing contests; it is always important for me to see where I stand in an A/B comparison.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Unfortunately not yet.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Of course, there are cost reasons, but I have no recall concerns, and plugins can be replaced more quickly, which should promote creativity.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll deliver a mix that captures and develops the vision of your song. You'll get a professional, clear, and balanced sound, ready for release.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The point at which something comes together during mixing and then keeps getting bigger.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long will it take to mix my song? My answer is then: 1–2 days, depending on the scope. It's important to me that it not only sounds finished, but also legit.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: If I get hired for a remix ;)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the song about and how did it come about? How was it recorded, which instruments are played, and what is particularly important?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please send all tracks with clear names and provide me with all important creative references. The better the preparation, the better and faster the final result will be.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An LA-2A and an 1176 should be packed, along with the Pultecs and a nice EMT 140 plate. Or not?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My first productions took place in 2015 as part of my training at the SAE Institute in Munich. In addition to my work as a sound engineer for TV and streaming services, I have been working regularly as a mixing engineer on mainly US and Canadian productions since 2020.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Serving the Song. I want to capture the song's idea musically and translate it into the appropriate sound. The song should ultimately sound "big" in a natural way.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Rush, also to see Anika Nilles again. I was her stagehand 10 years ago, but I've always really wanted to record her drums.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The most important thing is actually: concentrate on the song!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mainly acoustic, pop, rock, but also metal and hip hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Hearing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Once I've created a clean project, I get an impression of the song and arrangement, and based on references, I develop an idea of how the track can ultimately sound. I usually do top-down mixing, starting with the vocals. From then on, it's my ears' turn ;)
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio runs entirely in-the-box (Logic Pro based). I mostly listen through speakers, so my acoustically treated listening room and additional room correction via software (Sonarworks SoundID in my case) are important to me.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: In my work, I look to artists like CLA, Maserati, or Serban Ghenea for inspiration. But I can hardly single out any individual musicians; my listening influences now range from Turkish metal to French hip-hop to the Brandenburg Concertos.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Clients tell me about the production and the "target sound," and provide me with references. I receive the multitracks and create an airplay-ready stereo track that is already mastered in the desired format.
