Interview with Vineeth Esthaphan
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m particularly proud of a recent film songs project mixed in Dolby Atmos for a major OTT release.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently producing & mixing several independent tracks, OTT background scores in Dolby Atmos
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I am newly establishing my presence on SoundBetter, so I do not have a personal recommendation list on this specific platform yet. However, I work within a vast professional network. If your project requires an elite Mastering Engineer, a specific Session Musician (like a world-class guitarist or string arranger), or a specialized service, I can quickly research and vet highly-rated SoundBetter professionals who align with the quality and genre of your music, ensuring a seamless and high-quality collaboration.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: The best results come from the marriage of the two: using the reliability and precision of digital as the foundation, and then using analog gear selectively to craft a truly unique and emotionally resonant sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll always deliver mixes and productions that sound professional, emotional, and release-ready — on time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the joy of transforming raw tracks or a blank canvas into emotionally moving music that genuinely connects with people, whether through a powerful film score or a perfectly crafted song mix.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you make my mix sound like reference track?” My answer: “Yes — while keeping your unique identity intact
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that my work is purely technical. Many think mixing is just balancing volumes, but it’s actually about shaping the narrative, emotion, and energy of the music through sound, which requires a composer's ear and a technician's skill.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s your creative goal for this project? Any reference tracks? What’s your release platform and deadline?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose a professional who listens carefully to your creative intent—not just your audio stems. Great sound, whether it's a new composition or a complex mix, starts with a genuine understanding of your story and vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Mac Studio, Genelec Monitors, Avid MTRX Studio, Neumann Mic, and MIDI Keyboard.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started my journey in music direction and production at a young age and founded Audio Matrix Studios at 21. Over 8 years, I’ve worked across films, OTT, and independent music, growing into full-scale Dolby Atmos production and mixing.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is warm, immersive, and emotionally driven. Whether I’m composing or mixing, I aim for a sound that feels genuinely musical and impactful rather than simply technically processed.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with A.R. Rahman, because of his ability to blend cultural authenticity with global sound design.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always make decisions with your ears, not your eyes — meters and visuals are tools, but emotional balance comes from listening.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across diverse genres, including film scores, independent music, gospel, and fusion projects. My compositional work often focuses on blending acoustic instrumentation with modern electronic textures to create unique and powerful soundscapes.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is balancing creativity with precision. I can translate a client's core emotion or narrative into sound using both my musical sensitivity as a composer and my technical expertise as a Dolby Atmos mixer.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, emotional depth, and a sense of immersion that makes the music truly connect. As both a composer and mixer, I not only ensure technical precision but also shape the song's narrative, enhancing its emotional core and sonic texture.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The process starts with deeply understanding the client's creative vision—the story, the emotion, and the reference tracks. If I'm composing, I develop the theme and instrumentation. If I'm mixing, I clean, balance, and process the stems, focusing on space, dynamics, and emotional feel. Every project is finalized after detailed client reviews and mastering for the target platform.
