Interview with Tony Strotz

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: Although I can certainly compose conventional drum parts for your musical projects, it’s undeniable that AI has made significant progress in tackling these and many other technical challenges. This technological evolution presents me with an opportunity to go beyond mere technical proficiency and instead highlight my search for original ideas, creative vision, and experimental mindset — distinctly human qualities that currently elude artificial intelligence.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: Inspired by jazz/funk/fusion greats including Peter Erskine, Dave Weckl, Will Kennedy, David Garibaldi, and other legendary drummers. When it comes to pop/rock drumming, I particularly admire the work of Omar Hakim and Jeff Porcaro.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: My current activities include producing instructional video content for drummers, as well as developing a unique project that explores alternative arrangements of well-known compositions in odd-times signatures.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Skooltan

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Both are usable. Depend on context.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: My journey as a drummer began around the year 2000. Coming from a musical family — my father is a multi-instrumentalist — I grew up surrounded by various musical instruments and equipment. However, after witnessing drummers in action, I knew this was the path I wanted to pursue. Over the years, I have been part of numerous bands, worked with various teachers, and gained valuable experience. I completed my education at a music college and continue to dedicate myself to regular practice and continuous development as both a drummer and musician.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: My primary focus is drum instruction, though I have extensive experience performing live concerts in previous years. I am open to recording opportunities as a session drummer.
