Clever mastered many of the songs that are going to be on an EP. My dude killed it! It sounds so professional and we’re super happy to have worked with him!
Excellent to work with !
Very precise and efficient.
Definitely going to continue collaborating with Clever.
I'll admit I was very picky this time around. But this man right here did not give up on me. He will literally go the extra mile to satisfy his clients. I think anyone would appreciate that, and so thank you!
Aside from an outstanding result. I was able to catch an instant good vibe and a trustworthy relationship right off the bat; which we all know is rare. Clever even went out of his way to make sure the project sounded the best it could be. You’re stuck with me for life brother haha. 😎🙏
Quick turnaround and good work.
excellent producer, he adapts for what is asked for.
This is the second time we have worked with David: reconfirming his professionalism and accuracy in his work! He manages to reach your goal by also giving his personal taste to work! I recommend to everyone
I've been working with Clever for the last 2 years and he's one of the most talented people I've met. He has not only the skills required within the studio for songwriting, producing and engineering but also the ones needed outside to take the project even further such as the vision and empathy with those involved. Totally recommended.
Amazing producer! Innovative and modern sound. An incredible level of mixing, which any artist would like to have in their songs. 100% Recommended!
Interview with HeyYoClever
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For beatmaking I start by laying out the chord progression and looping it, then I start building possible melodies and motifs around it, then the bassline, some sound design while at it, and then the drums as the final touch. Once that 8-16 bars section is completely developed I arrange the full track from it. When mixing I start by placing the kick and bass and getting it to sound exactly how I want, then the rest is built around that.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I moved recently to Medellin so I'm mainly working mobile which is no problem since I'm used to working with headphones while always keeping the mix in check by listening in studios and cars. I use AKG K99 headphones and in my studio of preference I work with a UAD Apollo Firewire interface and a couple of Rokit 8 and Yamaha HS8.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started fooling around with FL Studio about ten years ago. 6 years ago I made edm and got played in some festivals but then stopped making music for a while. In that time I was learning new stuff, and focused more on improving my skills. After I did that I started mixing and producing for some clients and since a couple of years back I went all in again.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Building this page, a beatstore, getting placements and helping my team (Doug V and Angelo Reeves) to further develop their careers.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating on a state of flow, specially with others.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Not directly, but: Can you do it for free? The answer is always no.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Goals, time and references.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Majid Jordan, and Jhay Cortez they are some of my favorite projects right now and I feel my sound could really go hand in hand with them.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Giving edge to a song through my own unique sound, be it through structuring in cutting edge way, designing a synth that will make your song stand out or mixing the kick just the right way for it to hit in the club.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Angelo Reeves latest single 'Propuesta'. I did all the production, recording, mixing and mastering of the song.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Select good sounds.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I like to relate genres and sounds to cities, in that sense I'd describe it as a LA + Miami + London sound. I've studied a lot what great lasting producers do in this places. Sometimes you gotta go full Atlanta though haha
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Reggaeton and hip hop, in general music that could get played in a club. That includes EDM.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Doug V (Songwriting) and Voxhel (Production)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both but mainly digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You'll get the best from me.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Thinking mixing involves doing things that should have been done in production and viceversa
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you have a clear idea of what you want before starting and get a budget that will let us both achieve a good song.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: First of all some nuclear power plant that would give me energy for eternity haha then my laptop, interface, headphones, and monitors.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The best I can give. Energy, emotion and balance.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Max Martin, Skrillex, Tainy, Dr. Dre, Jaycen Joshua, OVO 40, Diplo, Sky, Calvin Harris.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Full production, additional production and mixing.
