Interview with MAK

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I’m especially proud of the work I’ve done with my artist over the past few years. Together, we’ve developed a strong and unique artistic identity in French urban pop. I’ve written all her songs, shaped her vision, and guided her through the creative direction. Seeing her reach millions of streams and grow her audience step by step is incredibly rewarding

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on new songs for my French urban pop artist I’ve been developing for a few years. I’m also opening up to new collaborations—writing for international francophone artists, and toplining for any artist regardless of language or origin

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: At the moment, I’m still exploring the platform . But I’m always open to discovering great talents and building a trusted network to recommend to my clients in the future.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have their strengths. I love the warmth and character of analog, especially for vocals and certain instruments. But I mostly work digital for its flexibility, speed, and accessibility—it allows me to be creative anywhere, anytime, and to easily collaborate with people around the world

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is to deliver high-quality work tailored to their vision, while maintaining clear communication throughout the process. I commit to being reliable, professional, and dedicated to bringing out the best in every project.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most about my job is the ability to bring ideas to life and help artists express their emotions through music. I enjoy the creative process and the satisfaction of hearing a finished song that connects with people. It’s rewarding to be part of someone’s artistic journey.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Customers often ask how the process works, how long it takes to complete a project, and what I need from them to get started. I explain that each project is unique, but usually we begin with a clear brief, then I provide drafts for feedback and make revisions until the client is satisfied. Communication and collaboration are essential throughout

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that writing songs or producing music is a quick and easy process. In reality, it takes a lot of creativity, patience, and technical skill to create something that truly resonates. People often underestimate the amount of work and attention to detail involved

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask about the overall vision and mood they want for the song, their target audience, and any reference tracks they like. I also inquire about deadlines, budget, and if they have any specific technical requirements or preferences. Understanding these points helps me tailor my work to meet their expectations perfectly

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My sound engineer, a high-performance computer with all the necessary plugins, but that goes without saying, a Neumann U87, a range of instruments, and some food, lol.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been writing and managing the artistic direction of a French urban pop artist for five years now. She has accumulated millions of streams, and we are clearly on the verge of making her a superstar. For me, I think it was time to share my knowledge and also open up so I can continue to grow

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: eclectic

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Let your imagination speak. music is above all a matter of emotion, sharing, and especially the sensitivity that is unique to each one of us.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on Caribbean, Afro, Pop, and French pop music

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring emotion, originality, and a strong sense of melody and rhythm to every song I work on. Whether I’m writing lyrics or creating a topline, I focus on capturing the artist’s identity and enhancing the message of the track. My goal is to make the song memorable, with lyrics that resonate and melodies that connect instantly. I also adapt easily to different styles, whether it’s French or international music

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process starts with a clear exchange with the artist to understand their vision, style, and goals. If I’m writing lyrics or toplines, I usually begin by analyzing the instrumental and defining the mood and structure. Then I write or record a topline that fits the vibe and message. I stay in close contact during the process to make sure the direction matches the artist’s expectations. Once the idea is finalized, I deliver clean and well-organized files, ready for the next stage

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Home studio with the quality equipment needed to ensure that the person I’m working with receives and understands the work clearly and effectively.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by a wide range of musicians and producers across various genres. Artists like Pharrell Williams and Timbaland inspire me with their innovative production techniques and ability to blend styles seamlessly. Their creativity motivates me to push boundaries and deliver original work that resonates with audiences

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I write songs primarily for Francophone artists, but I can create toplines for any French or international artist. I mainly work on songwriting, ghostwriting, and topline writing for artists who need original and catchy melodies and lyrics tailored to their style and vision. I also provide arrangement ideas and vocal coaching to help bring their songs to life. My goal is to deliver creative, polished content that enhances each artist’s unique sound.
