Interview with Giga Machavariani
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I composed and produced the full score for a short film that won a regional festival award. My role was to translate emotional scenes into music. It was a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently producing music for independent artists, scoring a short film, and building educational content for my music students and YouTube audience.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet personally, but I’m open to collaborations and happy to connect with like-minded professionals.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I use digital tools for flexibility and workflow speed, but always aim for analog warmth using emulation plugins. Best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat your music with the same care and passion as my own. I won’t stop until you’re genuinely happy with the final result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The moment when a client hears their finished track and says, “That’s exactly what I imagined.” That connection is priceless.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They often ask: “Can you make it sound like [famous artist]?” My answer: “Yes, I can get you close to that vibe, but I’ll always add something unique that fits your own identity as well.”
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That production is just “making beats” or “adding effects.” It’s actually about storytelling, emotion, and translating abstract ideas into musical reality.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: – What’s your musical goal or message? – Do you have references or inspiration? – What mood or energy are you aiming for? – Do you have a deadline?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be open about your vision and expectations. Share reference tracks, even rough ones. The clearer the communication, the better I can help shape your unique sound.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Computer, Interface, MIDI controller, Headphones, SSD
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been a musician since childhood and started producing professionally over 10 years ago. I’ve worked in film scoring, artist production, and run my own music school and studio, StudioSphere.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotionally cinematic with a modern, clean production. I focus on space, dynamics, and storytelling through arrangement and texture.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with artists like Hans Zimmer, John Williams --because they are the ones who made me fall in love with film music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always mix with intent—know what you want each element to express emotionally. Don’t just mix by habit; mix by feel.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I make music for almost all genres, especially cinematic, ambient, television, and film/game music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Arrangement and musical storytelling. I have a strong sense of harmony, dynamics, and pacing, which helps me craft songs that flow naturally and keep the listener engaged.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion, structure, and clarity. I ensure every section supports the song’s message, while delivering a polished mix that feels professional and impactful.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with a creative consultation to understand the client’s goals and references. Then I build the arrangement, layer instruments, and move into mixing and mastering. I send regular updates and offer revisions until the client is fully satisfied.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Studio One 7 as my main DAW, with a combination of analog modeling plugins (FabFilter, Soundtoys, Valhalla) and virtual instruments like Kontakt, Superior Drummer 3, EZBass etc.. I work with both MIDI and live audio, and my setup is optimized for high-quality production across genres.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by composers like Hans Zimmer and Ramin Djawadi for their cinematic storytelling, and producers like Finneas and Max Martin for their creative arrangements and emotional impact.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work on full song production—from arranging and composing to mixing and mastering. Many clients send me rough demos or voice memos, and I turn them into polished, release-ready tracks.
