Interview with KristianK | DAY BY DAY
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: he single "Deixo Pra Ela" (KristianK feat. Tarta) โ a Croatian-Brazilian collaboration I produced and mixed. It blends Baile Funk with Afro Soul and represents the global fusion my studio stands for.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Finishing up new episodes of Day By Day Radio, working on Afro Soul collaborations, Baile Funk mixes, and producing for Balkan and Brazilian artists.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not directly yet, but Iโm always open to collaboration with other creatives on SoundBetter.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both โ digital for speed, analog for soul. I use a hybrid setup to get the best of both worlds: precision when needed, warmth where it counts.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your track will feel like you โ authentic, emotional, and ready for the world. No generic templates. Just carefully crafted sound built around your vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Bringing someoneโs idea to life โ hearing an artist get excited when the track finally feels right is why I do this.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Can you make this sound more polished without losing the raw vibe?" โ Absolutely. I specialize in keeping the energy alive while tightening up the sound.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That itโs just about pressing buttons. Good production and mixing is storytelling โ itโs about bringing out the soul of the track and making it hit emotionally, not just technically.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What mood or energy are you going for? Any reference tracks? What are you planning to do with the song (release, sync, live performance)? Do you need production, mixing, or both?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know the vibe you're aiming for, and donโt be afraid to share references or feelings behind the track. The more context you give, the better I can shape the sound to fit your vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Tascam Model 16, Yamaha HS7s, Rode NT2-A, Keylab Essential 49, and my laptop with Ableton + plugins. Thatโs all I need to stay locked in.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started producing music independently, evolving into a full-time studio owner and sound engineer. Iโve been producing for 10+ years and founded Day By Day Music Studio to turn that passion into a platform for global artists.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Groove-heavy, emotionally rich, and globally influenced. My style blends bounce and depth โ perfect for music that needs to move people physically and emotionally.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Anderson .Paak โ he bridges live instrumentation and groove-driven Hip Hop in a way that feels alive. Iโd love to craft something raw and soulful with that kind of energy.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your ears more than your meters. Technical precision matters, but vibe is king โ if it feels right, it usually is.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on Hip Hop, Afro Soul, Baile Funk, R&B, Deep House, Jazz, and Funk โ blending underground and global sounds with clean, professional production.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Translating mood into music. I know how to shape a beat, vocal, or mix that feels exactly how the artist wants it to feel โ whether itโs gritty, sensual, energetic, or cinematic.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Character. I bring rhythm, soul, and sonic glue that connects emotion with sound. My goal is to elevate the artistโs vision and make the track hit โ not just technically, but emotionally.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with vibe โ always. Whether producing from scratch or mixing vocals, I focus on the mood and message of the track first. Then I build structure, polish sound design, and mix for emotional impact and movement.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of Day By Day Music Studio in Osijek. My core gear includes the Tascam Model 16, Yamaha HS7 monitors, Art HeadAmp4, M-Audio 1924 Air, Rode NT2-A, and KRK KNS 6402 headphones. Everythingโs built for clarity, warmth, and workflow.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Iโm inspired by innovators like Anderson .Paak, Kaytranada, and J Dilla โ producers who blend genres with groove and emotion. Their ability to tell stories through rhythm is something I aim to channel in every project.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I produce, mix, and master tracks across genres like Hip Hop, Afrobeat, R&B, Baile Funk, and Deep House. Clients often come to me for full vibe-rich productions or finishing touches that bring out the soul of the track.
