Interview with Keron "SHERIFF" Thompson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was the producer, mix and mastering engineer of a song called "Differentology" by BUNJI GARLIN. The song gatherd great success after it was released in Nov 2012, being placed on Greys Anatomy, Entering the Grammy Ballot and still being relevant in Caribbean carnival experiences to this day!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I've been mastering works for an EP as well as finalising tracks for my own instrumental EP to be released soon.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: SE_Digital
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Im an advocate for the HYBRID Life. Both analog and digital have their benefits and depending on the style, genre and intended result, each one can bring something special to the table. That being said I love the "Analog sound" lol
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: that you're happy at the end!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the adventure of new projects and finding new ways to solve problems and elevate the Quality of the projects that come across my desk.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's my most favourite project that I've worked on.. Answer: My own Album called "The Cynic and The Dreamer" released back in 2015
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mastering is a very sterile job. that it's easy. while there aren't any "wrong decisions" there are many ways something can sound "good" but still be undesirable to the client. Juggling this requires a lot of attention to detail.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: what are your references or artists with similar moods to you? what is the best setting to listen to your music for the first time? what do you like the most about your song or type of music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: the more I can find out about your project is the closer I will be to being able to turn your vision into reality. the mood, the story, the process, the tones. All help in helping me understand your vision
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: API2500 1176 neve 1073 Squire STrat Genelec 8351

A: I've been in this industry for almost 20years. I started off in a band like a lot of people and eventually moved in to music production and as I got older settled on the ART behind engineering and Mastering.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: my style is very open and organic. Drum Forward, focussed on groove and mood. Tight and Loud mastering!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tame Impala... I think the Approach to production and tones used are very unique
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Arrangement is probably one of, if not THE Most important part of production. it's what helps tell the story and conveys the mood over to the listener. each section deserves a different kind of attention.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Caribbean and Indie Music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Identifying the mood(s) the artist is trying to achieve and finding ways to achieve the best possible outcome
