I deliver mix-ready bass tracks using my Fodera 6-string, Tobias 6-string fretless, and Fender Jazz 4-string. With 20+ years of global experience, I bring deep groove, clarity, and musicality. From warm Motown to modern fusion, I craft the perfect tone and feel for your song.
I’m a NYC-based professional bassist with over 20 years of international stage and studio experience. Trained in Western Classical Music (piano and trumpet), I later developed my jazz vocabulary through years of private study, books, mentors, and real-world performance. Born in Istanbul and shaped musically by NYC since age 18, I’ve performed across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas in genres including pop, R&B, soul, funk, jazz, fusion, world, singer-songwriter, rock, and country.
I record with a custom 6-string Fodera, a 6-string Tobias Killer B fretless (with upgraded electronics), and a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 4-string for classic tones. This instrument range allows me to deliver deep pocket grooves, expressive fretless phrasing, modern fusion clarity, and authentic vintage feel—whichever best serves your track.
My workflow includes the Empress Bass Compressor, Universal Audio Apollo Twin X, and Cubase 15 Pro, monitored through Yamaha HS8, KRK Rokit 10, and professional studio headphones. I deliver clean DI and analog hardware-compressed bass tracks, thoughtful tone options, and musical parts shaped to the emotion and direction of your song.
My focus is always clarity, tone, feel, and musicality. With fast communication, a professional workflow, and high-level attention to detail, I aim to deliver premium results on every project.

Interview with Cenk Tezil – Session Bassist
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is “Jamateurs,” where I served as the producer and bassist. It allowed me to combine my arranging, tone-shaping, and performance skills to help guide the entire musical direction. It’s a project that reflects both my musical identity and the versatility I bring to each track.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on a series of original compositions and session projects across pop, R&B, singer-songwriter, and world-influenced genres. I’m also preparing new bass performance videos and refining my remote recording setup for even faster turnaround.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment, I keep my workflow personal and focused. I prefer to take responsibility for my part of the production to ensure the highest quality and consistency.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A mix of both. I track DI for clarity and flexibility, then use analog-style hardware compression for warmth, depth, and dynamic control. This gives you the best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To deliver musical, clean, intentional bass performances that elevate your track. Fast communication, professional workflow, and consistent results every time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating feel, emotion, and movement with just a few notes. I love helping a song come alive and hearing how the bass can transform a track when it’s played with intention and clarity.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most clients ask whether I provide both DI and processed tracks—yes, I always deliver clean DI and analog-compressed tracks at no extra cost. They also ask if I can match a certain style or player, and the answer is always yes—just send a reference track.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That bass is simple or just “support.” Great bass requires intention, touch, timing, and tone. A subtle change in articulation or note length can transform the entire groove of a track.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask about the emotional direction, reference tracks, the role they want the bass to play, and whether they prefer fretted, fretless, or a specific tone. I also check the arrangement, dynamics, and what feelings the song should evoke.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Come with a clear vision—or at least a feeling—of what you want your song to say. Reference tracks, emotional cues, and arrangement notes can make the process smoother and help me give you exactly what you’re hearing in your head. Communication is everything.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Fodera 6-string, Tobias 6-string fretless, Fender Jazz 4-string, Empress Bass Compressor, and my Apollo Twin X. With those five pieces, I can cover almost any tone or feel a song could need.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in Western Classical Music, studying piano and trumpet before transitioning fully into bass. Over the years, I developed my jazz vocabulary through study, mentors, and real-world performance. I’ve been performing professionally for over 20 years across multiple countries, working with artists from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. My experience in both live and studio environments shaped me into a versatile bassist comfortable in many genres.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style combines deep pocket and clarity with expressive musicality. I draw from Motown warmth, modern fusion precision, soulful R&B touch, and global influences shaped by Istanbul and New York. Whether simple or complex, my approach is always about serving the song with intention and feel.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with artists like Sting, Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, or H.E.R. because their music blends musicianship, harmony, and emotional storytelling. These types of artists value both groove and sophistication, and I feel my playing style—whether fingerstyle, fretless, or 6-string—fits naturally into that world.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Give the bass room to breathe in the mix. Proper EQ space, intentional arrangement, and focused low-end clarity can transform a track. A great bass part isn’t just played well—it’s recorded, placed, and mixed with intention so it supports the entire production.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on pop, R&B, funk, jazz, singer-songwriter, world, and modern fusion-influenced projects. These styles allow me to use both my 6-string and fretless techniques while keeping the groove clean and expressive. I also enjoy playing on acoustic-driven songs where subtle, supportive bass lines make a big difference.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is combining deep pocket and clarity with musical sensitivity. I know how to stay out of the way when necessary, and how to add personality when the song calls for it. My experience across multiple genres helps me adapt quickly to any style and deliver exactly what the track needs, with professionalism and consistency.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, tone, feel, and musical intent. My training in classical music, jazz, and world traditions allows me to approach bass not just as a supporting instrument, but as an emotional pillar in the track. I focus on pocket, articulation, and tone shaping, making sure the bass enhances the groove and elevates the arrangement. My goal is always to strengthen the song’s identity and serve its message.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Once I receive the track and client notes, I listen closely to understand the emotional goal, groove, and arrangement. I experiment with tone, technique, and instrument choice—Fodera 6-string, Tobias fretless, or Fender Jazz 4-string—based on what best fits the song. I usually record multiple takes, each with slightly different feel or tone options, then choose the strongest ones to deliver. Communication stays open throughout the process to ensure everything aligns with the artist’s vision.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is built for clean, high-quality bass recording. I track through a Universal Audio Apollo Twin X into Cubase 15 Pro, shaping tone with the Empress Bass Compressor and monitoring through Yamaha HS8s, KRK Rokit 10s, and studio headphones for accuracy. My signal chain is designed to capture a tight, musical DI paired with warm, analog-style compression. This setup allows me to deliver consistent, mix-ready tracks for any genre.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: James Jamerson, Marcus Miller, and Nathan East have all shaped the way I understand groove, tone, and musical responsibility. Jamerson taught me the importance of melodic bass lines that still lock the groove; Marcus Miller inspires my modern clarity, articulation, and touch; and Nathan East’s clean, soulful session approach is something I strive to carry into every project. I also draw inspiration from global sounds and artists across Istanbul, NYC, and the many musical cultures I’ve worked in.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record mix-ready electric and fretless bass tracks tailored to the emotion, groove, and direction of each song. Most of my work involves bringing clarity, feel, and deep pocket to pop, R&B, funk, singer-songwriter, jazz, and world-influenced projects. Whether it’s warm Motown-style fingerstyle, smooth fretless phrasing, or modern clean fusion tone, I focus on delivering performances that elevate the track and fit naturally into the production. My goal is always to serve the song, not overpower it, and give the producer or artist exactly what they need to move their record forward.
