Interview with Eurico_cello
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The project is called Muacy Trio and it is inspired by the one and only Moacir Santos, Afro-brazilian improvised music, made by violin, cello and doublebass.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working with my Brazilian trio called MAITACA, on my Berlin projects and my own music. I am recording at the moment and I playing it live with different musicians.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Depending on what the goal is.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give them something very personal and touching.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I can be creative with my instrument!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That cello can only play melancholic music...it can do anything ;)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you feel like doing something different than the normal pop music...I can be your guy $
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Tonedexter, a pickup, Focusrite, my computer and the internet!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have played cello for over 20 years, passing by the normal path as a cellist in orchestras, chamber music, more connected to the language of classical music for years but in 2020 taking the challenge to do what I always wanted that is learning the language of jazz to play any style of music I would like, so that´s my reality now. I am a jazz cello musician who collaborate with different artists and musician in Europe and Brazil manly.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is very fluid in the way I really enjoy playing all the parts that a song has as the melody, chords, bass...like to sing with my instrument but also being rhythmical.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I love to work with Thundercat. His music helped me to find my path in music :)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always look from something different that can fit the project.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: At the moment I am working in a few different projects but in general I work on instrumental music as my own projects and collaborating with singer songwriters.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a different look to the song since I am an improviser cellist who has a more large experience than classical musician.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Normally, I record at home using a Focusrite interface on my Mac. When it is necessary, I go to studios depending on the clients' exigencies. Also, when required, a certain sound, mic, or any other specific suggestion, we can find a solution and I am open to.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Learning your song fast and being sensitive to your and mine process of creativity.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Learn the music/song completely, getting inspired by it to create on the song's material with a new or more natural touch to the song/music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have a list so here are a few Jacques Morelembaum, Frederico Heliodoro, Stephan Braun, Mohini Dey, Mark Turner, Kika Sprangers, Thundercat, Ca7riel & Paco amoroso, Rita Payes, Marc Ribot...for example.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do play/ record on artists songs making the arrangements/parts/lines on my cello! It can be chords, bass lines, melodies and solos/improvisations. All of that with or without effects like reverb, delay, and other sounds :)
