Interview with David Herrlich

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Producing and mixing my EP ‘Tastes Like Summer’ was a defining moment. It was a full-circle project where I handled everything from production to mastering and artwork—fully capturing my vision and artistic direction.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on new Afro House and Latin House tracks, a few custom productions for clients, and preparing for summer festival season.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Still new to the platform, but always open to collaborations with talented vocalists and instrumentalists.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital—for the speed, flexibility, and efficiency. But I love blending organic textures and live-recorded elements to keep my tracks warm and alive.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to bring the vision of my clients to life with professional, high-quality productions tailored to your style and sound. No shortcuts, no generic templates-just music that evokes energy, emotion and summer vibes. You'll get full attention to detail and free revisions within the first week.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I get to create music that moves people, whether on a beach party in Ibiza or a club in New York. Seeing my productions come to life in different settings and got supported from so many big and awesome artists is incredibly rewarding.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: Will the track be 100% exclusive to me? A: Yes, once the track is completed and paid for, you own full rights and publishing. Q: Can I get revisions? A: Absolutely! I offer free revisions within the first week to make sure you're 100% satisfied.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That ghost production is just copying existing trends—in reality, it’s about crafting something unique that represents an artist’s vision while keeping it professional and club-ready.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: - What’s the purpose of the track? (Club banger, festival anthem, commercial release?) - Do you have references in mind? (Which artists or songs inspire you?) - Are there specific elements you want to include or avoid?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Know what vibe and sound you want, but also be open to creative ideas. The best results come when we find a balance between your vision and my expertise.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Like I've said above my studio setup is so simple, that I already taking it with me to cozy tropical islands and making music there🌴☀️🍹

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started producing when I was like 10 y old and DJing in my early 20s and spent years in the Tech House and House scene. With having gigs at venues like Bootshaus, Parookaville, ADE and Ritter Butzke and shared stages with the artists like Matroda, Tita Lau, Sonny Fodera, Meduza, and Walker & RoyceOver, I finally found my true passion in House with Afro & Latin House Influences and have been focusing on this style ever since.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: A mix of organic grooves, sun-drenched melodies, and hypnotic rhythms—designed to bring energy to the dance floor while evoking a warm, summer-like feeling.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Blond:ish, Keinemusik, Chris Lake and Diplo. They all have a distinctive style and bring a fresh and forward-thinking approach to house music.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: If something sounds different and is hard to put into a specific pigeonhole—stick to it! The most unique tracks are often the ones that don’t fit into a box.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: House music with strong influences from Afro & Latin House, but I also have experience in Tech House & Melodic House.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: To create a unique vibe throughout the track—something that makes people feel and remember the moment.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: That certain something that makes it stand out—whether it’s a signature groove, an unexpected element, or the right balance between energy and emotion.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually start with the drums and a simple percussion groove, then move on to chords to find the right key and work on the vocals. Once the foundation is set, I fine-tune the track with melodies, basslines, and effects to create a cohesive and powerful arrangement.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: To be honest, my studio setup is super simple. I mainly work on my laptop, my beloved Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, and a pair of KRK Rokit 5s (when I’m home). I’ve always followed the rule of less is more, which allows me to stay flexible and make music everywhere.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m obsessed with artists like Sparrow & Barbossa, Samo (BE), and Sasson (FR), to name a few. But I also take inspiration from totally different genres like indie & pop. I believe it’s important to keep a broad radar and be open for fresh influences—otherwise, everything starts to sound the same.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I specialize in full track productions—from ghost production and custom tracks to co-productions and mixing. My main focus is Afro & Latin House, blending deep grooves, organic percussion, and warm melodies to craft unique and energetic tracks.
