2x Grammy Nominated Engineer + Drummer :) Happy to provide my music services here to help elevate and complete your vision. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
I began my career as a touring drummer at 16 years old. I've since been working steadily as a musician, engineer, and producer, and was fortunate enough to receive two Grammy Nominations for my work with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Spoon in 2022.
I'm highly collaborative with producer Justin Raisen and our shared credits include Lil Yachty, John Legend, Charli XCX, Kim Gordon, Yves Tumor, Grace Ives, Joji, and more. In 2022, I finished constructing my private recording studio in Joshua Tree, CA, much of where my most recent work has been recorded.
I also tour with Japanese artist and actor MIYAVI, and have completed several tours across North America, Japan, The Middle East, and Europe.

Interview with Anthony Paul Lopez
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I had a lot of fun working with Grace Ives. She is so incredibly talented and just the most down to earth person. The whole team did an incredible job on that album.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I like to hear references - mixes you like, drumming styles, even just a "vibe", etc. Also, please let me know what you'd ultimately like to achieve with the project, then I can position myself to provide the best for that vision.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been at it for 17 years now.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always play to the song and LISTEN. The song is everything.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Drumming, mixing, and production.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to communicate as much as possible with the client before any tracking or production work is done. References are extremely helpful. Drum tracking can typically be done within a 1-2 days of frontend payment. Mixing within 3-4 days.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I finished building my private recording studio here in Joshua Tree,CA in 2022. It contains two rooms - a live room for tracking (lots of drums, guitar amps, an upright piano, Hammond C3 Organ...), and a fully treated mix room (plus an airlock that sounds pretty incredible for short reflections). My PMC speakers are calibrated using my Genelec sub with GLM4 software. I use Lynx converters. As a sort-of hobby I like to build gear, including one LA-2A with vintage transformers + T4B cell, and two custom compressors I designed based on the UA176 circuit (also with vintage transformers). I have a variety of preamps including Warm 1073s, Collins 356s, Seventh Circle Neve+API clones, and more. Microphones include Coles 4038s, AKG 451Es, a custom M49 clone (with Neumann K47 capsule), AKG/Norelco C60, and more.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: For drumming: Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Bernard Purdie, Jim Keltner, James Gadson... For music production: Justin Raisen, Nigel Godrich, Andy+Glynn Johns...
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily work as a drummer, recording/mixing engineer, and producer.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Reach out! I'm happy to do what I can to make your project be the best it can.
