Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of the projects I am most proud of is "Sueños sublimes: Música desde el alma" with music from the multi–Latin GRAMMY Award® winning composer, Claudia Montero. Her twin sister, Mercedes Montero and I produced this album during the pandemic with a 50-piece orchestra. It was a huge undertaken that resulted in a beautiful album.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on 15 projects at the moment, and I am in different phases of production.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I don't know.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog because the sound is warmer and bigger.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quality and dedication.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like to provide input on the arrangements and work with the musicians in the studio.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What are your prices? Depending on the project.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I can provide advice on the creative part.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What style of music do you want to record? How many songs? What's the format? What's your main goal?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who cares about you but who is serious about the work that needs to be done.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Jackson guitar, my line 6 amp, my zoom pedal board, my interface, and my laptop.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied music in Cuba and play electric guitar in a rock band. I have been producing since 2012.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a wholistic approach to production.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Iron Maiden because they have been my favorite band of all times.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Provide the arrangements and the scores to the musicians before entering the studio to record, and if possible, ask the musicians to rehearse until they are comfortable with the material.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Traditional Cuban music, contemporary Latin music, Classical, Instrumental, Tango, Flamenco, Singer/Songwriter, Rock, Latin Rock, Children, New Age.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My work ethics, vision and organizational skills.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the vision, and I work with the artist on the structure and elements that could make the song reach the intended audience.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: In this specific order: Composition, arrangement, rehearsal, recording, mix, and mastering. If working with my record label: distribution and promotion.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: We have three isolated rooms and a control room, equipped with an SSL Origin 32 channel-SSL console, a Yamaha C1 baby grand, and a wide array of compressors, preamps, and microphones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Engineer Oscar Autie.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I align with the artist's vision for the creation of an album, EP or song and work with the artist every step of the way from the begging of the project until the master files are delivered. I oversee the creation of an album from the creative, technical and business standpoints.
