Stefano Greco (Blaustudio)
Mix/Mastering engineer

I'm focused on electronic music of all kind and beyond, from pop to underground. It's 15 years now so I know how a track should sound in a club because i am a Dj too and i teach sound design&mix in Milan. I'm glad to work on your mixes or masters, directly from my studio in Milan.
My studio is fully equipped with analog gears dedicated to mix and mastering and it is fully digitally integrated.

Interview with Stefano Greco (Blaustudio)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: 3 years ago I worked on a documentary called "Gioja22", we wrote the music and then mixed it. It is challenging Europe now, being selected among many important festivals and won prizes for the music too.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: i'm working on a documentary (music, sound design and mix) and on new releases of the duo Distropical (production, mix and mastering).
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, i want to have transistor, tapes, valves as well as chips to shape the sound the way is needed.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: There is not an actual ending, even when a film or an album is published: it's always a progression of things in order to do better
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Often they ask me to follow a reference but most of time the refernce doesn't fit to the song. So i find the right reference for them.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That a musician can't be a sound engineer, this is not true..
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Many, the most i can know about their vision and habits in producion, the best is for me and the result
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: No advice, just get in touch!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An Eventide Orville, a Novation K-station, a T-Resonator, a guitar and a modular system..
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in 2011 with my studio but i was a musician and dj since 2000. You can check my site: www.stefanogreco.net
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I mix on flow and i love all kind of music, i'm never in a hurry because i know the musical process is slow.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When working on a song i love to subtly saturate in parallel to make sounds alive. 🔥 Even harmonics (2nd, 4th, 6th...) – Musically related to the fundamental tone. Warm, smooth, pleasant. Commonly produced by tubes, tape machines, and vintage compressors. They make sounds feel more intimate and natural. ⚡ Odd harmonics (3rd, 5th, 7th...) – Create tension, a more aggressive and edgy sound. Typical of solid-state circuits, transistors, and distortion pedals.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic music of all kinds to pop, soundtracks and sound design, jazz, world music with acoustic instruments
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Well, may be understanding people just with sound :)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring emotions to a song with strong decisions that convey the message to the most wide public.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: By knowing the artist and his/her story i get into the mind of the producer/composer and try my best to make his vision possible. I don't like to disgregate the initial vision (unless asked), i always work side by side.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Blau Studio has two 35 m2 interchangeable and connected rooms with 48 channels in/out and all kind of pre-amps and microphones. You can easily move inside and record separately. When working on post-production we allow people to share the space with us.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by masters of the past like Brian Eno as well as Bob Katz. I now respect a lot Marta Salogni for her wonderful work as a sound engineer and tapes master.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My most common type of work is mixing songs for producers and add sound design on movies. I often produce soundtracks for documentary and commercial, as well as music of my own or in collaboration with other musicians.
