Interview with Ismael Muniz

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: I'd say my ability to take an artist's idea, whether it’s a rough recording, a vocal track, or even just a concept, and turn it into a fully realized, professional production. I can adapt to different styles while staying true to the artist's vision.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: Typically I begin with transcribing the music from a rough recording provided by the client and creating a detailed chord chart to guide the recording process. If only a vocal track is provided, I build the arrangement by overdubbing the instrumentation to complement the vocals. For clients requesting genre-specific covers, I use the reference track they provide as a foundation to reimagine the song in the desired style while preserving its character.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: One project I'm especially proud of is working with the estate of Cab Calloway. This project came full circle for me, as I’ve been a huge fan of his music since I was 13. I remember discovering a Cab Calloway record at a thrift store, and it had a profound impact on my musical journey. Being able to collaborate with his estate later on was not only an honor but also a deeply personal milestone. My role in the project involved recording, producing, and contributing to the preservation of his musical legacy, which was a truly rewarding experience.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I prefer digital for its flexibility and efficiency. Digital tools give me the ability to work with a vast range of sounds, instruments, and effects that would be difficult to replicate with analog equipment. I also appreciate how easy it is to manipulate and edit tracks, which allows for a more streamlined creative process. While analog has its charm, digital gives me the freedom to experiment and refine ideas with greater precision, which is essential for delivering a polished final product.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to always listen to their vision and work hard to bring it to life in the best way possible. I’m committed to delivering high quality work, staying transparent throughout the process, and ensuring that they’re satisfied with the final result. I aim to create a collaborative, stress-free experience where their ideas are heard, and the music reflects their style.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love the ability to collaborate with artists and bring their ideas to life. There's something really fulfilling about helping someone shape their music and seeing their vision evolve into a finished product. Every project is different, which keeps things exciting, and I enjoy the creative problem-solving aspect of production. Whether I'm working on a new arrangement, experimenting with sounds, or helping an artist find their sound, it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of the creative process.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: It's always good to clearly communicate your vision for the project. Whether you have a rough idea or a detailed plan, the more information you can provide, the better I can tailor the production to your needs. Don’t hesitate to share feedback, ideas, or changes as we go along. I strive to make the process smooth and enjoyable, while ensuring the final product truly reflects your vision.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I’ve been working in music for 20 years, starting as a guitarist and expanding into production, recording, and arrangement. Over the years, I’ve built a diverse skill set, playing gigs, collaborating with artists, and producing music across various genres. My experience has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of both the artistic and technical sides of music, and I continue to grow and adapt with each project I take on.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: My style is versatile and adaptable to any genre or project. Whether it's blues, classical, alternative, or pop, I focus on creating music that supports the artist.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I’m open to working with artists from any genre or style. Whether it's pop, rock, jazz, or something completely different, my goal is to help bring their vision to life. I enjoy collaborating with musicians at all stages of their creative process, providing the support and direction needed to enhance their ideas and achieve the sound they’re looking for.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: I like to start with the basic structure of the song and build from there, adding instruments and layers one step at a time. This ensures everything fits together smoothly and supports the overall feel you want for the track.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I have experience working across a wide range of styles and genres, from jazz and Latin-inspired music like rumba and samba to acoustic, pop, and beyond. My adaptability allows me to bring fresh ideas and the right musical approach to any project, ensuring the final product fits the artist's goals and the song's needs.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I bring a strong sense of musicality, attention to detail, and adaptability to every song. Whether it's refining an arrangement, adding instrumentation, or shaping the overall production, I focus on enhancing the song's core emotion and helping it resonate with the listener. My goal is to bring the artist's vision to life while adding depth and polish to the track.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: The most common type of work I do for clients involves transforming their original song ideas into fully realized productions across a variety of genres and styles. This process often includes arranging and recording the instrumentation, fine-tuning song structures, and ensuring the final product aligns with the client’s artistic vision. Whether it's building a track from scratch or enhancing an existing demo, I focus on bringing out the best in the music while maintaining its authenticity.
