Hi! I’m Alex and I’ve been songwriting over 20 years and producing for 8 years. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Grammy winning producers and writers for some of the biggest names in music.

WHO I am:
Originally from California, I moved to Nashville 10 years ago to pursue my dreams but quickly realized I had no idea what I was doing. I could write songs but that was about it.
Luckily, I had a strong mentor take me under his wing and show me the ropes. From there, I created a band and toured across the country and have gained over 6 million streams independently. I’ve done everything from touring, writing songs for TV, radio, interviews, branding, and played shows for 65,000 people.

WHY me?
I will help you CRAFT your sound and give you the tools to release it.
The main struggle I had when finding a producer was one that actually cared about my Vision and future. I wanted to change that. My main goal is to make sure you’re happy with the song and also have a plan of action to release it.

I’ve mentored artists with millions of followers to artists that have never been on a stage before. I meet everyone where they are because all in this together.

Alex is absolutely one of the premier songwriters and producers people should be jumping at the chance to work with. While a master of creating the perfect hook to a song, he brings any project he works on to the next level. Amazing person and one of a kind human being you need to know.

Alex is one of my band’s favourite songwriting partners. We’ve done numerous sessions with him over the years, remote and in-person. I’m a huge fan of his melodies & he has a knack for catering to the artist he’s working with to help them bring their vision to life.

Interview with Alex Johnson

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Personally, my own band I’ve always written and performed everything on. But now I’ve started doing all the production and mixing for. We’ve accumulated over 5.6 million streams with no label support.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Working with an artist named Jenane. She has over a million tik tok and instagram followers but we’re looking to convert those to her music now. We’ve released one single so far.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Christian Fiore, Abbey Loren

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. At this state, we’ve trained our ears to a digital format and songs are being cranked out left and right. There’s not much of a place anymore for a huge studio space with analog gear that weighs a million pounds.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To always make sure you’re happy and pleased with the final product.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The freedom to work with artists I believe in.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How’d you get to where you’re at? Time and patience and never quitting.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That the producer isn’t important. Without producers Beyoncé, Ariana grande and any other artist would be lost and not have a sound.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What’re your goals as an artist? Who are your influences? What’s your plan for releasing it?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Take your time. Don’t be hasty. Finding the right producer is one of the most important things you can do as an artist.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Guitar, keyboard, MacBook Pro, Shure sm7B, Apollo Twin. You could make anything with those.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Over 10 years professionally. But I’ve been performing live music almost 20 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Chill and friendly but also not afraid to challenge you as an artist to get the desired effect.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Bring Me The Horizon. They’ve gone through such an incredible transformation and are now one of the pioneers of their genre.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t try to emulate others and fit a mold. Take the long path and find your own way and sound.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, Rock, Pop punk, Heavy Rock, anything that truly hits you in the face sound wise.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Having a good ear for what’s going to catch the listeners attention. While staying current and up to date for modern pop and rock.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I’d like to say I bring life to the song. Not just in songwriting or production, but also the process of getting it released correctly.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I like to start by getting to know the artist and see what they’re wanting. Whether it’s just one song or an entire album, I like to know where their heads at and that we’re on the same wavelength.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a home studio fully treated with custom hand built acoustic panels and bass traps. Lots of of cool mood lighting to get the vibes right. And a full collection of mics, instruments and plugins needed to create the perfect hit.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m typically inspired by producers, writers or artists that like to think outside the box. It’s easy to stick to the formula but the real artists are ones that push the boundaries of the unknown.
