Huw V Williams on SoundBetter

Bass player with London Jazz scene's finest as well as indie rocker Gruff Rhys. I have made appearances on records on Rough Trade Records, Fresh Sound New Talent Records and many other record labels within the jazz and avant-garde world.

I'm a touring musician, playing upright and electric basses.
I have a background in jazz, rock and world music, always pushing myself and playing with as many musicians as possible.
I'm comfortable in most musical situations, playing with a strong sound both pizz and arco as well as having a great ear and a solid reader.
I have played with many world class musicians such as; Gruff Rhys, Kliph Scurlock, Jim Black, Mark Lockheart, Jeff Williams, Huw Warren, Emma Frank, Franky Rosseau, Kate Stables, Jay Davis, Mike De Souza, Billy Marrows and many others.
As well as being a side person, I am also a composer having led many of my own projects, as well as remixing and reimagining other people's works.
I have a great sounding room at home with a low ceiling for a very present double bass sound, I usually mic with two cardioid microphones, one on the body and the other on the neck, to get the fullest sound possible. I usually use a FET 47 clone mic, a SE X1 mic, SM58 or SE stereo pair, depending on situation.
For Bass guitars, I have many different sounds available, from a Fender P Bass with flats, a semi-hollow Guild Starfire with rounds, short scale vintage short scale with flats (for ultimate dead sounding 70s bass), a passive 5 string bass (for extended low notes) as well as a Fender Bass VI.
