With over 15 years of experience, I specialize in pop, electronic music, and indie. Since 2017, I’ve been part of the band for the German TV show Sing meinen Song, performing with artists like Johannes Oerding, Clueso, and Michael Patrick Kelly. I'm also touring for various artists, playing on Germany’s biggest stages for audiences up to 50,000.
I have a passion for working with analog synthesizers and innovative digital instruments to create unique soundscapes. With extensive knowledge of a wide range of synthesis techniques, including subtractive, granular, and FM synthesis, I develop custom sounds that elevate your music. Alongside synthesizers, I also work extensively with the piano, having started my musical journey with classical piano training before going on to study pop music. Additionally, I offer tailored sound design services to complement my keyboard and piano work.
For me, the song always comes first. I have a keen sense of where to place accents and when space for dynamics and silence is needed. My tracks blend seamlessly into the song while standing out sonically.

Anyone looking for tasteful soundscapes, inspiring sounds and the right style for their tracks will find what they are looking for in collaboration with Malte. Over the years I have had the pleasure of hearing him in countless musical situations and can therefore only recommend working with Malte's sounds and abilities on their tracks.
I have played with Malte on more than 200 songs in studio and television situations. His creative approach to keyboard sounds and synth parts is always inspiring, unique and with a sensitive taste.
I totally trust his musicality to give synth tracks depth, style and expressive character.
On top of that, he is the most pleasant person to work with.I've been working with Malte both in studio as well as in live circumstances over the last decade on hundreds of songs as part of Germany's music TV show "Sing my Song". He is not only a highly skilled pianist/keyboarder but also THE weapon when it comes to synths and soundscapes. He is fun to work with and is very dedicated and "into" the music. His musical ideas and contributions often add great trademark sounds to the songs. No matter if you are looking for mainstream pop or indie synth vibes - Malte is strongly recommended.
Interview with Malte Horstmann
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: This year, I’ve been touring with Montez, Ian Hooper (Mighty Oaks), and Michael Schulte, alongside my work with Sing meinen Song. I’m also spending a lot of time in the studio, recording for various artists.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of people, create music (of course), and discover new places while doing all that.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work across all kinds of pop music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style blends organic and electronic elements to create a unique sound that complements the music. I focus on crafting textures and sound design that bring emotional depth to the track. I adapt to the needs of the project while still adding my own individual style, regardless of the genre.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A Prophet, an acoustic piano, some headphones and a computer with an audio interface to record.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making music as a kid, taking piano lessons when I was 6. When I was 14, I joined my first band, which got me into improvisation and playing non-classical music. In 2008, I began studying pop music in Mannheim, where I connected with many people in the industry and started working as a full-time musician. In 2017, I became a member of "Grosch's Eleven," the band for "Sing meinen Song," one of the most successful music TV shows in Germany, which remains one of my most important jobs each year. I spend most of the year touring with various artists, and I also try to do as much studio work as possible.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: When I was younger, my biggest inspirations were artists like Björk, Massive Attack, and Radiohead. Today, I’m inspired by artists like Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Fred again.., Moderat, SBTRKT, and Ólafur Arnalds.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: We live in a digital world and I like to use all its benefits but I still love analog things, especially when it comes to sound. So the answer should be both!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Revised: I work in my own small studio, recording with Ableton Live and Logic Pro. My setup features a range of analog and digital hardware synths, keyboards, along with VST instruments and effects. For acoustic recordings, like piano, I have a small selection of high-quality microphones.
