Interview with Matthew Duplessie
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of narrating The Pleiadian Agenda. It’s a spiritually rich book, and I was honored to bring the words and teachings to life through my voice. It was a beautiful alignment of my passion for spiritual wisdom and vocal expression.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: ’m working on finishing a few new songs centered on the chakras, as well as creating new sound healing experiences for my clients. I’m also preparing to launch my book, The Art of Energy Awareness, which will be accompanied by a series of videos.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. I love the warmth and organic quality of analog, but digital allows for flexibility and experimentation. I use both depending on the project—analog for grounding and richness, digital for precision and layering.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love helping people discover the transformative power of their own voice. Watching someone find their authentic expression and experience a shift in their energy or perspective is incredibly fulfilling.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They often ask, "How can sound or my voice heal me?" My answer is that sound carries frequencies that resonate with your body and energy field. By using specific tones, harmonics, and vocal techniques, we can align, clear, and balance your energy, leading to emotional and physical well-being.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A lot of people think sound healing or voice therapy is just about singing or vocal exercises. It’s much deeper than that—it’s about tapping into the emotional and energetic layers of the self through the voice and sound, using it as a tool for personal growth and healing.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I typically ask about their intention or vision for the project—what message or feeling do they want to convey? I also ask about any emotional or spiritual themes they’d like to explore. This helps me tune into the energetic foundation of what we’re creating.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who aligns with your energy and vision. Sound and music are deeply personal, so it’s important to work with someone who understands your intention and can translate that into the sonic world.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a lead vocalist in bands and transitioned into sound healing and holistic voice therapy about 10 years ago. Along the way, I’ve developed my own sound, blending spirituality, technology, and voice. My journey has always been driven by a deep desire to understand the power of sound and how it can heal and transform.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a fusion of ethereal soundscapes, healing frequencies, and emotionally charged vocals. It’s deeply spiritual and cinematic, always seeking to create an immersive experience that evokes transformation.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Follow your intuition. There’s no right or wrong in creating music, but if you feel a certain sound or direction strongly, follow it—it’s usually where the magic happens. Don’t get too caught up in the technical side; emotion and intention are everything.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on music that falls within spiritual, healing, and cinematic genres. My focus is on creating experiences that allow people to connect more deeply to themselves, so the music I create or contribute to often has an ambient, soulful, and meditative vibe.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal expression is my strongest skill. I’ve spent over two decades developing my voice, not just in the technical sense but also as a tool for emotional and energetic transformation. My ability to intuitively read the energy of a song or person and channel that through sound is where my strength lies.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a deeply intuitive and multi-dimensional approach. My focus is on channeling authentic, emotional expression through the voice and sound. Whether it’s vocal melodies, harmonies, or soundscapes, I aim to bring an ethereal quality that helps the listener feel transported.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process starts with connecting to the energy and intention behind the project. For music, I typically begin with an improvisation, tapping into intuitive melodies and rhythms. For voice therapy, it’s about creating a safe, sacred space for expression, followed by vocal exercises, and tuning into the frequencies that bring healing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a home studio that’s designed for comfort and creativity. I use a mix of analog and digital equipment—high-quality microphones, audio interfaces, and my trusted DAW (Ableton Live). The space is also energetically aligned, with crystals, sound bowls, and instruments like my native american flutes & didgeridoo that I incorporate into sound healing sessions.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by artists like Enya, Brandon Lake, Deva Premal, and Jai-Jagdeesh for their deep spiritual connection and ability to create music that transcends genres and touches the soul. I also admire Hans Zimmer for his cinematic approach and ability to evoke powerful emotions through soundscapes.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do for my clients revolves around helping them connect with their authentic voice, whether through holistic voice therapy, sound healing, or custom mantras. But I also use my voice in music production, where I offer vocal performances, harmonies, and backing vocals. My voice is often sought for its ethereal, emotive quality, adding layers of depth and spiritual resonance to a track. I frequently contribute both lead and backing vocals to healing music, cinematic pieces, meditative soundscapes, or spiritual tracks, always aiming to bring an intuitive and heartfelt presence to every project.
