Interview with Sam Skaf

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: Mastering single songs or albums.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: All gear at SSM was modified for better performance electronically and sonically. Our goal is not to be “typical”. We want our equipment to stand out as much as our skill set combined with decades of musical expertise. This was made easy by Sam Skaf’s academic and industry affiliations built over the past 28 years.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: We do boutique mastering with UNLIMITED REITERATIONS until the result is “Perfect!” Boutique, meaning the treatment is special and better than what you would get from commercial facilities. This includes tape, tubes, & class A processing.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: All the above, but most importantly that I am a pro musician who knows what's musically needed at this stage of the project.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Listening.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
