I had the pleasure of working with Vince for the mixing of my last few singles, and I couldn't be happier with the results! From the beginning, Vince enthusiastic and easy to work with. Highly recommended!

Interview with Vagabond Audio

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Lester Estelle

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Ah, the age old question... I *prefer* analog, but both have their place. I will always prefer the sound and color of analog hardware. However, in this day and age, the digital domain comes awfully close and I do rely on those tools a lot.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Find someone whose work and approach inspires you. Find someone who will challenge you, musically, but someone who will enjoy being around. Being personable, in my opinion, is one of the most important factors I look for in the people I collaborate with. If I enjoy being around you, I'm going to work harder and feel more motivated to produce the best product possible.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Don't be afraid to commit! Try everything once. Don't stick to "the formula" because it's safe. Some of my favorite recordings and mixes came from trying something new and different, and I'm so glad that I did.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: We typically work on Rock, Country, Metal, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, and Alternative.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: We use an Argosy desk and sidecar, Steven Slate Raven MTI monitor, and Wavebone sidecars. We utilize Universal Audio Apollo A/D converters, with 32 channels of I/O. We have a variety of outboard preamps, compressors, and EQs - from Rupert Neve, API, SSL, CAPI, BAE, SPL, DBX, Audioscape, Warm Audio, Empirical Labs, and Focusrite.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: My primary influences include Andrew Scheps, Joe Carrell, Warren Huart, Colt Capperune, and Andrew Masters.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: The most common type of work I do is tracking, mixing and mastering. For tracking, I can track virtually any instrument. For mixing, I mix in a hybrid environment - utilizing outboard gear as well as plugins. For mastering, I primarily master tracks "in the box," preparing the final mix for distribution. Additionally, I often provide vocal tuning, sound design, and composition for various projects.
