Specializes in writing catching ear worms over any track. Has over 100 songs in her catalog and has toplined over more.
I am a songwriter with a Bachelor's of Music with an emphasis in Commercial Songwriting. I specialize in toplining and writing catchy hooks in the commercial space. I can have the first draft of your song finished and sent to you for review in one day. I am good at capturing a similar vibe to any reference track you send if you are looking to do something similar to an existing artist.

Interview with Rachel Deschaine
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am very proud of a song I recently finished. I think it turned out pretty much exactly as I imagined.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Some demos for sync.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have not been on here long, so we'll see!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, honestly it's just easier, especially as a pop artist. I understand why artists in other genres may have a preference for analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that I will get you your finished product in a timely manner and if you aren't satisfied I haven't done my job!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love songwriting so much! I love sitting down with a track or at the piano and completing a brand new project.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Mostly questions about the timeline of the project and it depends on the individual project for my answer.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it takes years to write one song. Sometimes it takes a day, sometimes it takes a week. There are exceptions of course but I think if you are working in music, you can probably get it done in a reasonable amount of time.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask for references if they have them. I ask what their end goal is for the project (personal project, sync, artist pitch, etc.)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would say before you reach out make sure you are clear on what service you want and what you would like the end product to be. Music is collaborative of course but make sure you know what you are looking for.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, of course. A piano, my pop filter, my mic, and my headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been writing since I was nine but it's really been the past five years that I've gotten more into studio work and writing over tracks.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Definitely commercial pop, mostly programmed instruments but usually including at least one live element.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: In my wildest dreams I would love to work with Kygo. I think the way he repurposes older tracks is genius but he manages to keep what was special about the songs in the first place in tact.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My production tip would be to create your own demos even if you don't consider yourself a producer. It is a great way to get all of your ideas out and communicate them as clearly as possible.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually pop, EDM or electric pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am great at mimicking the style and feel of a song while still creating something original. I am able to understand what makes the song what it is while still writing a wholly original new song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always bring a strong hook. My main goal when writing is to create an ear worm. Especially if I am writing pop or EDM, I think that is possibly the number one most important factor to writing a great track.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I generally listen to any reference tracks first, then I will listen to the track I was sent a few times to really get it in my head. Then the melody usually appears first, lyrics occasionally too but I need a strong melodic hook before I can really dig into the lyrics.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My personal studio is very simple. I use logic and have a Yeti mic that I record very simple demos on. I work in tandem with a lot of talented producers to clean up tracks.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ava Max is one of my favorite current pop artists. I think she's very consistent in her style. I work with many producers who inspire me with their ingenuity and creativity.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do demo vocals and toplining for electronic, pop and EDM tracks.
