Interview with MissJoanaM
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I'm especially proud of involved writing lyrics for an independent artist's debut album. The artist wanted to convey deep personal experiences and emotions, and it was my role to capture and articulate these feelings through compelling lyrics. Collaborating closely, we created songs that resonated deeply with listeners, earning positive feedback and strong connections with the audience. The success of this project was particularly rewarding because it combined my passion for storytelling with the artist's unique voice and vision.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I'm working on several exciting projects. These include collaborating with artists to write compelling lyrics for upcoming tracks, diving into a historical research piece to enrich a storytelling project, and exploring new themes in spirituality and the universe for a personal writing endeavor. Each project is a unique opportunity to blend creativity and passion, aiming to produce impactful and resonant work.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not at the moment.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog: Often preferred for its warm, natural sound quality and the tactile experience it provides. Ideal for music enthusiasts who appreciate the nuances and imperfections in sound. Digital: Favored for its precision, convenience, and versatility. It allows for easy editing, storage, and sharing, making it ideal for most modern applications, especially in music production, photography, and data storage. Ultimately, the choice depends on the desired outcome and personal preference.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to deliver lyrics that authentically capture their vision and emotions. I commit to open communication, creativity, and professionalism throughout our collaboration. Each project will receive my full dedication to ensure the lyrics are impactful and resonate with their intended audience. Your satisfaction and the integrity of your artistic vision are my top priorities.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like most about my job is the creative process. I love turning emotions and stories into lyrics that resonate with people. It's incredibly rewarding to see a client's vision come to life through words and to know that my work can connect with and move audiences. Additionally, collaborating with diverse artists and learning from each project keeps the job exciting and continuously inspiring.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Question: How do you ensure the lyrics match the client's vision? Answer: I start by having a detailed conversation with the client to understand their vision, themes, and style preferences. I review any reference songs or artists they provide and create a draft for their feedback. This collaborative process ensures the final lyrics align perfectly with the client's expectations.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that writing lyrics is simply about rhyming words. In reality, it involves capturing emotions, storytelling, and creating a connection with the audience through carefully crafted language and themes. It's a blend of creativity, technical skill, and deep understanding of music and human experience.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the main theme or message you want to convey in your lyrics? Can you provide examples of songs or artists that inspire your project? What is the deadline for the project? Do you have any specific requirements or preferences regarding style or structure? What is your budget for this project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When hiring a lyricist like me, it's crucial to clearly define your project’s needs and expectations, including the genre, style, and themes. Review my portfolio to ensure my work aligns with your vision. Effective communication is key; be open to collaboration and feedback. Discuss budget and payment terms upfront to avoid misunderstandings. Finally, use a contract to outline rights, responsibilities, and deadlines, ensuring a smooth and professional working relationship. This approach will help you find a lyricist who can effectively bring your musical ideas to life.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Multi-tool: Versatile for various tasks like cutting, opening cans, and building. Water Purification System: Essential for safe drinking water. Firestarter Kit: Reliable way to start fires for warmth, cooking, and signaling. Tarp or Emergency Shelter: Protection from the elements. Fishing Kit: For a sustainable food source.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I loved arts since I can remember, alway loved music and creating.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Versatile, fun, creative. My style blends emotional depth with vivid storytelling. I focus on creating lyrics that are both poetic and relatable, aiming to capture the essence of personal experiences and universal themes. My approach often combines a balance of introspection and external observation, resulting in lyrics that resonate on a deep emotional level while also painting a clear picture. I prioritize authenticity and connection, ensuring that every word contributes to a meaningful and impactful narrative.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: There few here and there, but can't give examples at the moment.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Layering Sounds for Depth and Richness Tip: Layer your instruments and sounds to create a fuller, richer mix. How to Do It: Choose Complementary Sounds: When layering instruments, select sounds that complement each other. For example, if you're layering synths, choose one with a bright, airy tone and another with a warm, thick texture. Adjust EQ: Use equalization to carve out space for each layer. For instance, boost the high frequencies on one layer while cutting them on another to avoid clashing and ensure each layer has its own sonic space. Pan and Spread: Pan different layers to various positions in the stereo field. This creates a wider and more immersive sound. You can also use stereo spread techniques to make some layers sound broader. Use Effects Wisely: Apply effects like reverb, delay, and chorus selectively to add depth. For example, adding a subtle reverb to one layer can make it blend better with others and create a sense of space. Volume Balance: Carefully balance the volume levels of each layer. The goal is to blend them in a way that enhances the overall sound without overpowering each other. Example: Drums: Layer a tight, punchy kick drum with a deeper, more resonant kick. EQ the punchy kick to emphasize the mid-high frequencies and the resonant kick to bring out the low end. Synths: Combine a bright lead synth with a warm pad. Pan the lead slightly to one side and the pad to the other to create space. Vocals: Double the vocal track and add slight variations in timing or pitch. Pan one slightly left and the other slightly right for a fuller sound. By layering sounds effectively, you can add depth and richness to your tracks, making them sound more professional and engaging.
